It is about the only colour car they look good in.  I don't think I have ever seen them painted to match any other colour.

Yeah, I don't mind the silver-on-silver tail light surrounds... if you had chrome bars it would be a bit funny but with silver bars it looks nice.

Are you going to black out the radiator support panel so you can't see it through the grill?

come on Aaron, we need to see the interior !!!!

Ok Tones here ya go,
The dash pad was refreshed by vacuumed formed with original type grain by Ian at Dashboard Recovering Services, I did have an original White needle SL/R dash that was going in although once I had seen a Peter Nash dash I had to have one.

I purchased the Chamois hood lining & vinyl kit from C & G Upholstery and I got to say how good the quality is, pre getting it installed i laid the hood lining and the door vinyls out on a flat board basically for months unit it was time for Lewis from Moore Style Upholstery to install.
Lewis mentioned….. I wish everyone laid out the vinyls and lining as it made the install so much easier as he didn’t have to deal with creases.

I’m absolutely stoked with the outcome & can’t wait to get my carpet, seats & door trims.

I wish I had gone white numbers instead of yellow with my dash... I wanted to keep the SLR/LX theme, but white looks cleaner than the yellow. Still happy with it. Looking good mate!

How difficult is the sound deadener stuff to apply? I have to do my HK GTS at some stage soon. Is it a problem for water retention (old Holdens always leak!) and thus rust, or is it pretty good that way?

The chamois trim looks fantastic!

The peel-and-stick insulation is pretty easy to install, you want to use a roller with it.

I don't imagine it's much of a drama for water retention... as in on the inside of a door skin under a winding window where water might be inside the door when it rains hard? I would not worry if you prep everything and apply it correctly so it's not catching water under it, lol.

I'm thinking more about water leaks and under the carpet. These old cars always seem to leak from their cowls if you get in really heavy rain. I don't think I've ever had a HK to WB or Torana (I've had them as daily drivers since the early 80's) that didn't leak somehow. I'm not talking rust leaks but the plenums getting overwhelmed in torrential rain where the drain tubes can't keep up or they get blocked with a leaf and you get overflow onto your feet. Plus HK coupes have glass sealing against rubber. Hatchbacks are bad enough with door seals letting heavy rain in, but HK coupes have no frames and water gets in. My current GTS is being built so it can be used as a daily if I want to, with air, steer, big brakes, sensible tyres etc. At some stage it'll either get rained on when parked or driving. And I remember too well that wet carpet underlay smell!

I thoroughly agree, so I won’t glue anything to the lower floor, and I won’t have frigging carpet in a car full stop. From the factory it was about covering at least 60% of flat panels with dense material to eliminate drumming. These days modifiers and restorers alike tend to go nuts on the heavy “sound deadener”, and can add a shitload of weight unnecessarily. Floor pans have plenty of ribbing to counter drumming.

My method is to lay soft heat and sound insulation on the lower floor without glueing it down. Factory mat on top. Every time I get back from a wet trip I pull out the mat and insulation and dry everything out.

Interesting. Mine has probably spent 20 nights getting absolutely pelted with rain and since I actually glued the sunroof seal onto the sunroof panel, it has been fine if the sunroof is closed.

Except for the rear boot sub-floor. Not sure if that's tail lights or something else, but that area does leak.

Most of my deadening products aren't glued to the floor, but there is some that way. I reckon it would be more likely to rust at the edge of the sheets considering how the glue goes down and seems to act as a sealant. I guess you probably want a bit of overlap between the sheets or a sealant between them, but they possibly prevent some rust issues if you're happy to put a heavy amount of it on. I haven't done it that way.

You can’t beat having a good painted seal on clean metal, that you can see and easily clean and dry. Water leaks are so frustrating on these old cars, I gave up trying to trace them long ago, and just treat my car like a dingy. I haven’t needed to instal a bilge pump yet.

Really easy to install yel327 as the sheets are a peel off backing & stick on, you can lay the sheet in place and shape it to the area, trim and cut where required then a couple of markers where the sheet will lay. Definitely clean the surface & Peel the backing off & stick down…. Roller required to bond it 100% to the surface.
The CarBuilders product I purchased came with an install kit… Roller, knife & foil tape for the joins between sheets.

Cheers Aaron

Hey Laurie
Certainly made a difference on the installation, Lewis had the hood lining & door vinyls all done in a few hours.

G’day Viewers
Ticking more shit off the list, I purchased a new windscreen from Glass for Classics which I’ve got to say how great they are to deal with, I wouldn’t bother dealing with anyone else if you want perfect glass.
I had ol’mate come around to install my front & rear glass… you can never beat old Skool experience as he’s done a fantastic job although I did make the job easier having my window & windscreen seals on the glass taking shape for many weeks.
