I tried the VIN decoder with my number and it is correct.

The car year was reported as 1978 for a 11-77 compliance which at first I thought was an error but after checking the LX Parts Catalogue on page 6 it states that the Car Year changes on the 1 September so 1978 is correct for a 11-77.

I gather both the VIN decoder and Body Identification tag decoder were based on the tables in the LX Parts Catalogue.

I can't quite put my finger on where I've seen it, but the Torana illustrating Barbados Green under the paint codes section looks vaguely familiar as well.

Any car built from the 9th month will have the following years date on it as Holden go from September to September.
So if your cars compliance says 6/76 it will come up as 76 model, if it says 10/76 it will come up as 1977.

Yes. This is an extract from page six of the GMH LX Torana Parts Catalogue.
