Gday everyone back again, wanting to know how to remove old oil seal and replace with new one. Went down to the torana masters at Gold coast got back home and noticed oil every where. Car had been off road for many years I think seal may have dried out or something is that right? Any help would be great.
Thanks Big Jack

Rip off the sump, clean where old oil seal is, lube up the new seal (make sure you pull the one from above the crank off too), put it back in with new sump gasket. Leave it to sit for a couple of hours then crank her up and off ya go!

If it continues to leak, you need more breathers on your oiling system (i.e. on the rocker cover)...

Cheers
Keith

if its the rope type rear main seal and its old you will most likley have to pull the crank.

i suggest you get yourself a manual on your car for around $20 to $30 and have a read.
may save you some cash even.

pull the engine ana box out together. Then fix out the car and put back in.

i tried replacing the rope seal without pulling the crank out, and that was hard! though i didnt have the tool! but i dont see how that could have made it easier, just take out the crank and do it that way.

Thanks guys, just acouple more questions the seal is a 2 piece unit, when you say pull the crank do you mean undo all main bearing caps take them right out, same with big ends. Or can I get away with just loosening them and just lift crank enough to remove seal. Thanks Big Jack.

if its a wick type seal remove sump and loosen remove rear main cap i have found it best to loosen other caps but not too much there is a tool to remove it and its called a sneeky pete(thought that was bullshit till i bought one) use it to remove and install new seal top half.
The remover is a t shaped handle that screws in.
The installer is a wire cable much like braided hose covering that when youm pull it it gets tighter and grips the seal to pull it through

Thanks hsv484 for the info, the seal in my motor is a 2 piece moulded rubber or something. But had some luck anyway. Loosened all main bearing caps took rear one off all together took spark plugsout lifted rear of crank 2 maybe 3mm got a bit of 3mm welding rod pushed on seal and out she came. Will take down to auto shop and get new 2 piece unit.
Thanks everyone If i have trouble with fitting new one I will call on yous.
Cheers.
