Hi All,

Let me start by saying if this is in the wrong spot, can admin please move it.     Thanks.

Now, Starting this friday will be the Streetmachine Drag Challenge. Basically the same as the American Drag Week, but with only about 50 cars. So, five tracks, five days, 1500km, and no car trailers. You can tow a trailer to pull your gear, but you can't tow the car, it must be driven to all tracks.

It starts and finishes at Calder in Melbourne.

I have entered and am looking forward to having some fun with the big guys. I will be one of the slower cars, but hopefully will have just as much fun.At some stage I am really hoping to get a ride in one of the quicker ones!

He is a photo of my car with the trailer hooked up. Not a sight you see evryday.

I will keep you guys updated if there is interest with photos. I don't do youtube so videos won't work.

Any questions fire away and I will have a go at answering.

Well until Friday!!

Yes, I put carpet in there. Hoping to help keep things in place?!? Hope it works

Grant, I'm rapt you started a thread for this.

I'm hoping to get to Calder for day 1 to have a look and support you guys. I know 4 of the entrants - yourself and Brett (yellow LX SS hatch), who should be running similar times to each other, then a couple of the "fast" twin turbo V8 boys - Quentin (last years winner with the wild plumb LH), and Brenden (VH Commodore).

I'm spewing I'm not entered, but timing was not good for me this year.

Bring on the photos and stories, that'd be great mate.

If I make it to Calder on Friday I'll say g'day if you're not too busy.

PS. Love the trailer, haha!!

Awesome!!! Have followed US drag week the last couple years and I love this concept. No trailer queens or temperamental ,unreliable , stupidly quick cars that only have one real good pass in them then need a rebuild lol. Keep the pics coming and anything even remotely interesting keep us posted. Thanks

Glad to hear there is some interest.
Brett, I met Quentin a couple weeks ago at Heathcote. Nice guy. All going well I'm kinda hoping he may be nice enough to take me for a ride down the strip, I would love to get a ride in that weapon! As I say, all going well.

Friday we have to be there around 8:00, but the track is open from 11-3 for us to get our times.

I will keep the photos and gossip coming.
I'm really looking forward to some good honest fun, and a lot of laughs

Yes Dave, Streetmachine website is constantly updated, as is their Facebook page. I think they may do video link from their also.
I did read something about Twitter but I'm not up with that and didn't take much notice.

Thanks Daz, see how we go. Hopefully I will have no dramas and will be at each track to give full updates!

I'm looking forward to following the challenge - thanks for sharing. This is not an event I am familiar with, but I read the very comprehensive entry conditions and it sure sounds like great fun. Seems like there is the possibility that the fastest car may not be the winning car. Bring it on and good luck Grant.

That's correct Steve. Last year was a good example. I don't reme the exact reasons, however the fastest time was not by the winner. But as they always say, first you have to finish before you finish first.

Not long now.
I will be packing my trailer and last prep items tonight

Today was a great day. I have met a lot of fantastic like minded people and have had a blast.
Couple of minor hiccups earlier but nothing that couldn't be fixed in a short time.

I have heard rumours of gearbox replacement in Toranas, and heads off LS Commodores to change lifters. I can't confirm so I won't name cars.
What I will say is some people go to extreme lengths to keep themselves going.

And this is just day 1!!

Managed to score the day off work and got out to Calder today... what a wicked way to spend a Friday! The cars were definitely cool. Took a heap of photos just wandering around between the pits and the strip. Atmosphere was really good and laid back, with everyone seeming to enjoy themselves... the pits were full of activity - this style of event is kicking goals I reckon.

Racing started just after 11am, and was mainly done by 1pm, with scattered cars just racing after then. I think a lot of entrants were already thinking of the next 4 days and the road-trips ahead so were happy to wind up early after banking a few decent times.

Anyway, here's a few happy snaps and a bit of commentary from the day....

Drag_Challenge_2015_001.jpg

Terry's Commodore looked real neat in person. Fastest car to date, with a 7.8 sec E.T. Man it looked smooth down the strip....

Drag_Challenge_2015_002.jpg

Drag_Challenge_2015_003.jpg

This thing was just brutally tough:

Drag_Challenge_2015_004.jpg

Drag_Challenge_2015_005.jpg

Brett's SS, standard stroke 308. Trying to score that elusive 11, but ran a string of mid 12's with a 12.4 best I think for the day:

Drag_Challenge_2015_006.jpg

Q with GMPWR - last year's winner... more on this one soon...

Drag_Challenge_2015_007.jpg

Wicked T Model.... he drives this thing damn hard.... well into the low 11's from memory. I heard he lunched the engine and is out of the comp:

Drag_Challenge_2015_008.jpg

Drag_Challenge_2015_009.jpg

Grant getting ready to rock n roll... looked really solid on the strip, but I know he wasn't happy with the mid 12's either... very consistent though...

Drag_Challenge_2015_010.jpg

This was pretty much what the pits looked like everywhere:

Nice!

One thing I was surprised at, was just how many cars were running 8's, 9's, and 10's... outta control for cars that are about to drive for nearly 1,500km's around the state... I'm impressed. Some of the fuel bills (especially on the angrier carb'd cars are going to be nasty)...

Anyway, more photos:

Not only AGRO, but pure class:

Drag_Challenge_2015_023.jpg

Drag_Challenge_2015_024.jpg

Now back to GMPWR - after a first pass out and already posting down an 8.30 E.T, on subsequent runs he decided to make his pit crew earn their keep, so destroyed the trans...

Drag_Challenge_2015_025.jpg

Nothing like trans rebuilds on the fly.... their motivation is awesome!! Good luck getting it all sorted guys. Read on for more trans woes....

Drag_Challenge_2015_026.jpg

Next up Brenden's VH (another twin turbo V8)... after some settling down runs (dipping into the 9's), he upped the ante....

Drag_Challenge_2015_027.jpg

Drag_Challenge_2015_028.jpg

And the result - another dead transmission within the space of an hour or so!! Yep - time to pull this box out too... hey guys it's only Day 1 - settle down, LOL!

Unfortunately I won't get to any more tracks over the next few days, but good luck Grant, keep the pics and stories coming in mate. Enjoy the event!

Cheers,

Brett.

We its day 2 and we have made our next destination.
It was far from smooth sailing for us, but we made it.
Day two started with a drive to Portland for 1/8 mile
Unfortunately on my third run I tore the diff mounts on the lower trailing arm and drove the rear left wheel into the wheel arch. Thankfully very little body damage!!
We were fortunate to have access to a hoist and welder and sorted it out.
Made it back on the track in time to do another two passes, and then drive 287km to the next destination, Horsham.

Now to relax and a few beers, then a 300km trip to Mildura for our next bout of races.
As you can understand not a lot of photos taken today, so photo update tomorrow.
