hahahaha LOVE IT!!
It wasn't ideal, but we kept going and that was the main thing.
I will be getting it out and on a jig to check the alignment this weekend. Just to be sure

We got up nice and early to head to Mildura. It's about 330km and most wanted to hit the road before the heat set in. We got up at 5:15, had a quick shower, packed the car and tried to take off. I say tried because I couldn't find my keys. We unpacked the trailer again, not there. We crawled in to the hatch and opened the lock with a pair of pliers so we could check there properly, emptied it out, not there. Emptied my bag cause I was the last one with the keys, not there!!! Checked the consol, found 'em! 6:30, finally off we go.
Our trip was fairly uneventful. The car ran well amd we didn't come across anyone broken down on the side of the road.
Most guys were traveling at about 85-95 kmph due to their converters. We sat on 110 cause I could. This meant we passed quite a few cars. Made for some great video and photos. I will get them from my brothers and post up in the coming weeks. I was driving not filming.
The most fun car to pass was the EH. His car sounded great as we passed it, he gave it a little rev for sound, then decided he would race me! Thankfully the road was dead straight and nobody was coming the other way! We were a long way from the speed limit and I was starting to sway. He backed off and I finally past him!
Once at the track I ran the time I wanted in the first pass. I did another three for fun, then kicked back and watched for a few hours.
When Terry pulled in with his VC they put it staight up on stands and removed the gearbox. This one was dead. In doing so they striped the thread out of the fly wheel where the converter bolts on. This took them quite a while to repair. When they did the weather turned to crap. We got rain, wind then a dust storm. By the time he got a pass in, he was way off his times........
More soon......

That night we had a BBQ at the caravan park supplied by the park. This gave us a chance to all catch up, have a chat and a few beers ( just to make a point, NO ONE drank Cider!!!!). It was really good to have such a relaxed atmospher and speak to some people we hadn't had a chance to talk to as yet. I can honestly say they were a great bunch of guys and girls, without any egos or chips on shoulders. I was by far the slowest car, yet never once did I feel funny being around anyone. This event is far from a dick measuring competition!
Day 4
Once again a nice early rise and off we went. We were on the road by 6:15, and that seemed to be a popular time as we were with quite a few cars on departure.
The trip from Mildura to Heathcote is about 450km. Is was a long haul but again uneventful for us. Unfortunately the Bronko ceased an engine half way and was out. A couple ran out of fuel, but we're still able to get to the track eventually.
We headed straight out on the track. Once again I got the time I needed first up, but since I was far from happy with my times, and we were so close to home, I used the rest of the day as a "test and tune". I would have done about 15-18 passes when I had a thought. The only thing different to when I ran a flat 12 second pass was my tyres. Last time I had a 50 series tyre, and now I am on a 60. So I put my street tyres on, did the worlds biggest burnout to put some heat into them, and off I went.
I skated first into second, then skated again as I took third, and a little step out as I pulled fourth, and ran a 12.52! Problem found, my tyres are too tall for my car. I thought that you need to run the tallest tyre you can fit under your car, especially when I have 4.11:1 gears. Well, obviously not in my case!!!!
This was home track to many, especially with Calder being closed for so long and only just reopening, so times for most were what they expected. I saw the pink Torana run a 8:23, but the best for the VC was only 8:55.
I don't believe there were any issues with any cars at this track, so most enjoyed a good night sleep and an easy night.
Unfortunately the Challenger arrived too late to get a pass in, so that was their challenge over also.

Interesting about the tyres - it's all about gearing. Were you hitting max revs over the finish line, or still some in reserve?
Here's another happy snap of your beast doing what it does best!

Not that I'm in the same hemisphere are these cars but FWIW I was consistent 12.9 with my street tyre and dropped to 12.7 when I bolted on my smaller 225/50r15 ET streets. In my opinion it wasn't because of grip either as traction hadn't been a big issue for me.
Your thread here will do no harm to imcreasing the popularity of the event.
