Hey guys, cars is off to the panel shop in 2 weeks, getting excited!

I need help choosing the best paint.

Im going to go Mint Julep green with SLR5000 blackouts.

What brand of paint best matches the original Mint Julep (and paintcode please), and what is the name of the black paint for the blackouts called again?

Thanks in advance

Thats not my car obviously, but i love the paint finish!

Mint Julep is 17779

I know this as its the ugly colour my SS used to be according to the tags

And yes Tuxedo for the black unless your doing it right in which case its a satin version (A9X)

Mint Julep

GMH code: 1915

Dulon code: 568-17779

Berger code: 1C055

Tuxedo Black gloss is 568-15991 (Berger 1K001)

so Tuxedo Black satin would be 578-15991

The type of paint depends on what kind of finish you're after, some say old fashioned acrylic has more of a classic look for older cars while 2pak looks more 'plastic-coated', either way you might have trouble getting an exact match to a 70's colour because modern paints don't have lead in them, but for a full respray you probably won't notice the difference?

Thanks for that info guys.

Does anyone prefer the Dulon paint over Berger, or visversa?

I will be doing it in 2pak

This.

I hate brand wars, its really much of a muchness after you get away from the real bottom line stuff. People get real carried away with it though.

BTW, that is a weird way they've done the blackouts on that Torana, kind of a hybrid between the sedan and hatch maskings, only they haven't followed the body line at all forward of the doors... can't say I like it much.

Although that is one big-ass hair dryer, must sound like a jet engine when it gets spinning!

Also went square corners. You can't judge the colour by that pic as it has been enhanced by the photographer. Mint Julep is a little milkier than that pic shows.

Cheers, yes i know the photo has been enhanced . The blackouts are shit on that car also, i was just using the pic as basic reference!

Ill check with the painter what paint he is using, i was just checking with you guys as he hasn't painted a flared/stenciled & blackouts on Torana before, he has done some GT's with blackouts and heaps of old Holdens etc, but his 1st time with an SLR

I just wanted to make sure he gets it right with the paint choice
