So I'm trying to work out which manifold is the best choice for my 202 currently in the build. I plan to run a 500 Holley on one of these 2bbl manifolds which are obviously similar in design....is one better than the other?

Cheers

No bomber, I'm used to your honesty.... if you had to pick a 2bbl manifold for a 9port which way would you go? The only others I have seen is the redline torker or SP manifolds...

+1 ^ Hi Andrew,

The Engine does most of the work, I used the Cain, then use a 4bbl Cain,

heaps of power.

THe engine does nothing Dave, the engine is an air pump. Its no different to your air compressor.

The carb, inlet manifold, head exhaust and cam do all the work.

Back to the orig question, I dont like any of the off the shelf 2bbl manifolds for a 9 port. They all have the carb facing the wrong way. If I HAD to pick one of those two I would go the cain.

There is a "long runner" mani, cant remember who makes it, this is where we need wot179 to chip in, the front and back runners came out parallel to the engine than had a nice gradual curve into the ports, The late, Great Mark Stuart liked that mani, though its still far from ideal.

From what I have seen and read the blue/black carby manifold with the carb spun 90 degrees is pretty ideal, but I dont think it would work so well on a 9 port.

You could spin the carb flange 90 degrees on a 9 port mani and it would probably work a touch better....

Dunno mate, I have no real easy answer for you, depends on what your goals are I suppose?

I don't have a pic of the one Bomber is talking about.

Check out 2elcs build thread for a pic.

1st up love the ^^^DINGO manifold^^^ Craig & any finned engine accessary is CooL... 2nd I agree with Bomber why the hell wasn't the carb mounts horizontal to manifold on all these 2b manifolds ?? Would think better fuel distribution than having carb mounted vertical to centre 2 pots, Similar problem looking at the Rare Speco Firestreak above......

This is the one DJ meant.

This one is to suit a ww strommie but they were made to suit a holley as well.

As da one.

Nice big plenum, nice gradual curves, no huge x section changes, best of a bad bunch.

That carb orientation suits a WW2 or a webber perfectly, but is not really suitable for a 2bbl holley because of the way the butterflies open.

For some reason over the last 40 years NO ONE making after market manifolds for the little six has actually realized this and rectified the problem.

Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm not building a big horsepower engine, just a nice street motor.

Has anyone tried re mounting the carb on a 9port? (I've seen old Johnnos 12 port mod which was done very well)

Wot179 I'm very impressed with your collection of manifolds...would be great to see a thread covering all the factory and aftermarket manifolds used on Holden 6s.

Cheers
