Hi Chaos is that 202 picture a JP? Do you the engine number?
Im guessing not, or its a real cheap jp. pic is form here, http://www.ebay.com....b38Wz476cU1o9uA

With JP391820 being 2H3 maybe the only H casting block in a Brisbane built Xu1 the 3 blocks at Brisbane JP398 two are incorrect on the vin,So the majority of Brisbane xu1,s had F and G cast blocks all Adelaide xu1,s built in the 9 month 73 have H casting blocks cap is JP393### to JP397### no JP blocks 394,395 and 396.
With JP391820 is the number on the oil filter side a 10 and left side (exhaust side) a 6?
Pictures of QL403178 keep looking QL blocks with a 3 and cast dates.
Cheers

The number 1 is always higher than the others and the number 7 has that banana curl to it also.........

I checked two of the QL blocks I could get too and one is a 1 and the other is a 5, there's another engine I can't read due to air con bracket and the extractors.

Al,Can you get a better picture of the 6 on the left side(exhaust side)......... 5M2 is a JP cast date JP260 to JP300 one example:

Ian ( ChaosWeaver ) I have noted in one of your posts you say you are not shy of research..........
Are you up for a challenge ?
It,s not difficult, however is of great importance........
And Al if your eyes are stuffed, use a magnifying glass........

Bruce, why the hell not .... I love a challenge .. And I'm good at "not difficult"
Fire away, what am I researching ??

The number 1 is always higher than the others
Always?
Must be fact, Bruce says so.

Must be fact, Bruce says so.
Doesn't seem any higher in crabbas last pic either
Posted 15 March 2016 - 09:13 AM
depends on the angle of the photo too.... most 1's do appear higher in the pics I have of engine numbers...

The angle of the photo, the amount of paint on the pad can make some major differences. I find a straight edge comes in very handy also. Recently I was sent some photos of a JP engine number which I had some doubt about, but once I had viewed it in the flesh there were no doubts what so ever that it was genuine. Photos can be a little deceiving at times..............
Ian, countless times I have asked people to ring CAMS and get there facts right ( They have not ). This research involves ringing or writing to CAMS ( Historical Section ) and asking them that if GMH homologated a new block (9/2E ), how many blocks and/or cars were required to allow that homologation to take place under there 1973 Group C rules. This will tell us how many blocks/cars we are chasing. How many were required...........
I look forward to your findings.........

I haven't looked yet............ but I think I know what you are getting at... 250 motors, am I right??
Bruce, even if this can be proven, and GMH did infact make 250 (9/2E) blocks........ what relevance has the Dual Cast Date got to do with them..... Considering, the Dual Cast Markings are on normal 202 & 173 blocks ???
Just asking in advance if that is what you are seeking ........
Not to mention, there's a part of me that thinks you have not been able to find this yourself....... for I'm sure you would have shown what you have found from CAMS well before this....
There is also a part of me that is happy that people are looking for secrets about these cars....... but not to the point where stories are fabricated around loosely known facts...
If you or Anthony have any knowledge or in particular any Credible proof of what you are stating, Why not just lay it out...... if it is what it is.... some pats on the back maybe coming..... if not, at worst all you were was wrong..... and there is no harm in that...
cheers Bruce .. let me know if I'm right....... I have enough on my hands with Steve and Wot, over on the other thread .... Fukers won't look nothing up for themselves ... just jocking Wot & Steve ......

My eyes are good, there is no number there, I have cleaned that area and looked and looked, if the numbers is there, it dose not want to be seen.

I look forward to your findings Ian.

Always?
That pad and the way the number is stamped is identical to mine. In fact, the engine numbers are very close together. The last digit in my engine number sits slightly higher than the others, exactly per the '5' in this one. And the '1' is in the same position as well!
