You don't need X-ray vision to see the QL under the JP and I believe when Keith purchased this engine it still even had its original head on top, a low compression 2811930 9G3.........
Anthony warned him to stay well away I believe
Please.........
Put your money where your mouth is Bruce, Anthony and XU-1 Rat, lets get this thing X-rayed !

Yep, easy as frOck to sit behind a keyboard putting other peoples stuff down blubbering and sputtering with noting to prove it, git her done.
Surely X raying doesnt cost frOck all?

Take it to NSW or VIC police, they may do it for free?

Still trying to find the car it came out of Skapinad , i have heard that it was owned by a farmers lation that has the papaya
5000 rotting in a barn and won't part with it , bit of a shame really.
The broach marks look ok on the dodgy one that needs Xray , you would have to be frokin good to to replicate that ?

What is a farmer's lation? and what do you mean by the broach marks look OK on the dodgy one that needs Xray?
The broach marks on that number pad are original so therefore the block is not dodgy and does not need X-ray however to get the pad X-rayed would hopefully satisfy any doubters.

I don't think he meant the block was dodgy.... I think he was having ago at the doubters ...

Thanks Ian , yes that is what I meant ! ,just me and my weirdo way of saying things.
A farmers "lation" is a farmers relation, just could not have been bothered typing 2 extra letters

My apologies for misinterpreting your post.

Old mate has a 1973 HQ engine block QL403178 out of a 9/73 kingswood but wants to turn it into a JP403398 1973 Bathurst engine block.
Without machine decking or hand filing the pad !!!!!
QL403178 into
JP403398
How would you do it ?

Simply file or sand the QL away and replace with JP
Simply file or sand the 17 away and replace with 39
Its that simply, plenty of paint
Time to lift your game, Adam.........

Interesting Bruce!

If there is someone good with a file,
I would say the 'J' is in the centre of the Q:-
QL JP plus.jpg 97.28K 2 downloads
but that photo up there ^ looks smooth.

Mods, can we change this dickheads username to "restampsRus" and give him a thread in the business discussion section please?

Oh FFS, now I've heard it all. That's the funniest bit of bullshit I've heard so far this year.
You blokes really love clutching at straws.

The J is right in the middle of the Q and you can still see the L at the bottom of the P. The 85 has been played with to........
I thought this thread was how to spot a restamp......LOL............
I must be on the wrong thread

If you look really closely you can also see some Chinese writing between the J and the P,
or is it that face of Jesus. lol

Someone is pretty damn good with a file then to remove only an engine number prefix and leave no trace of file or sanding marks on the original broaching pattern. And to boot they had access to original GMH J & P type stamps.

Hey i thought Jesus face was on my toast this morning wtfIf you look really closely you can also see some Chinese writing between the J and the P,

The "J" is not in the middle of the "Q" , take a closer look and compare some of the other real stamps and it is very easy to see
that what may appear as a "Q" is nothing more than the top part of the "J" that has been stamped a little deeper/hence wider and has distorted the metal in that area to raise it a little around the edges so that when it was cleaned down a "stain" was left in the lower areas , it has no tail , as a Q should.?..as well as a myriad of other problems with simply filing or sanding, grinders are quicker.
The same can be seen on some of the other #s as well to a lesser degree.
Now that the real ones can be seen , we need a fine example of a restamp ?
Posted 27 February 2016 - 07:13 PM
Ask restampsRus for some picks of his engine if you want picks of a dodgy one.
Posted 27 February 2016 - 07:27 PM
Gang stamping will be all straight and inline,
except for surface area resistance of the stamp,
i.e. light and heavy indentations.
I would imagine, GMH changing wornout stamps like an old deck of gambling cards.
