How about some more pics of engine numbers with mould numbers? JPs with 3, JPs without 3. Dual cast, single cast. All one big happy family. Show us your pics boys.
Only rule is no more negative slurs from anybody that has not put their own engine up for scrutiny.

Ian,If you or anyone else wants to see my stamping/block and the number 3 on the left hand side it will be on display at Geelong all Holden day next Saturday and Phillip Island in two weeks time on the Sunday......................About the photo,s of the dual cast block 7H3 JP 397 the owner did not know how to put photo,s up and wasn't happy about Byron comment that all dual cast block had there engine numbers painted thats the reason if i have someone,s photo,s or parts i always ask for permission the photo of keith's engine number was send to my via email on 12 November 2015 and asked my opinion.
Cheers
The people he should be unhappy about is those making assertions that ALL of the final 150 XU1 engines having dual date codes. We all here either know or at least very much suspect this is not correct, and I suspect you know it too. The problem has been created by YOU and your mates in the 3 ring circus. I only know of three original 150 list engines now that are unquestionably original engines, and all three do not have the second date code. If there are others with dual date codes, I or the owners of these three engines do not care as it has nothing to do with their engines. My statement about painted engine numbers is 100% accurate - I have never seen a claimed 150 list engine with a second date code displayed without its engine number painted, either in the flesh or in photos. If you or the owner of the car you are talking about is unhappy with that I don't give a rat's proverbial as it is 100% fact - I've never seen one, doesn't mean there isn't one. As for photo evidence, I still am yet to see a photo of the body plate of the white XU1 that is supposedly a good car to learn from. Whoever owns this car now if you are on this site can you put up a photo of its body plate? Or if you see it at a car show grab a photo? It is the white one featured in Norm Darwin's book.

Seriously, you say that you can't see the QL under the JP, your eyes must be terrible. The number is much to high anyway.

there is no QL , it is all an illusion !

she is the real deal , here is one we prepared before , knocked it up at lunch time to show that it not that easy to dodgy the process but as can be plainly seen it is not that easy even with semi "period correct" punches.
Could not have been frokt lifting that thing onto the bed to remove the original , it can be done but would take a lot of time and it
would also introduce other telltale signs that would be fairly obvious , and why would you bother anyway ? , to make a quick fraudulent
$ ?.
It takes a fair whack to put a good mark on cast iron and the bigger the # or letter the worse it gets to try and keep the depth
even half consistent with the factory method , i think you would need to spend a lot of time and effort to end up with the fraud squad
on your back trying to palm one of those off as a real one , frok that.
It is also legal to "restamp" a block , but you need a # from certain places to do it.
goes for sanity check

I think the J is to rounded at the bottom, I think you may have to get this one X-rayed.

Paul, does your guy do this sort of testing ?
Anyone in Brisbane got a spare red 6 engine block laying around cheap or free ?
..............……
Hi Adam,
We can do magnetic particle inspection on stamping to identify the exact no.
Few years back we did the same test in Dalby to find the engine number from an old car which was bought in US.
Another option is acid etching test with Nital acid.
Please let me know if you need a quotation to proceed with this Job. The pricing will be around $400 + GST.

Ask Sivaguru Balasubramanian for a before and after examples of his work Adam,
We often see things in life that show how the comparison with other stuff is, so we can make choices.
Got one reply..,

I've cut the following Number 5's from known original Holden red motor engine numbers to remove the distraction of the numbers around them.
You can see the curve in the top of the 5 that Bruce refers to as the banana.
1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8 This one is a bit blurred but does the top of the 5 look curved like the numbers above? I think so.
9 Does the 5 shown below look OK? I'm undecided at this point in time.
10 This 5 is clearly a restamp
11 This 5 is also a restamp.
Apologies that some of the pics are a bit small but to enlarge them they lost clarity.
Anyone agree, disagree or not sure feel free to comment.

Like button for you Dave,
I see the number 5 in all stamps and sizes,
that it must be a life time of experiences to work this lot out.
