lol Bomber :)

Yes I can appreciate some of those prices may be a wee bit over the top.. but given my current situation lack of time and lack of a place to do it all,,, and...i don't have to it...

Most of that I was prepared to swallow. Its the centre that bites the hardest. 3.5k..... I think a used centre with 3.5/ 3.7 gears and a limmo in it should suffice for the first center to get me up and going.

31 spline axles should suffice as well and allow for more readily off the shelf upgrade items like the true trac .. or s trac

in all tho 8.5k for a unbreakable diff ...hmmm

Go and look at Moser Engineering in the USA, and price up a 9" or a 12 bolt with them, complete with brakes etc an look at the import cost with someone like LS1 hatch on this site. You'd have to get the mounts welded on here though unless you can send them over a banjo housing somehow. It'd be a worthwhile exercise just to compare what you are being quoted here. The other option would be to get the housing done here and order a 9" centre from Moser.

Just looked on the Moser site, $1700 US for an aluminium case 9" centre with 31 spline tru-track. By the time you got that here you'd be around $3300 allowing $250 freight. If you go for a nodular case they are about $150US cheaper.

Most local diff guys these days are pushing 35 spline axles as opposed to 31 spline i'm sure there getting a special deal on them,..i mean seriously most diffs built these days are over kill for the street and should be in race car's..i've never broken a 31 spline or 30 spline 12 bolt axle and all my car's stick shift manual car's that see a lot of drag racing with slicks running good numbers..going 31 spline is simple if needing a replacement centre in a hurry not sure about finding a open or lsd 35 spline as it becomes a custom job pretty a spool or locker...8 k is shit load of money to spend ...i can't even get 2grand back for my 3.90s richmond gears strange alloy case 31 spline detroit locker diff 1350 yoke done less than 400ks..

Minor technicality I recon? Some people arnt all that mechanically inclined, there usually the ones who give up ona project and sell bits off as seems to be happening here.

Yes, that would be the innocent explanation.

I just picked up my diff.
Brand new pumpkin, brand new gears (either Strange or Motive, can't remember, discussed it at time of order), 6mm wall on tubes, big bearings using a race nodular center case. He boxed the bottom mount and used after market top mounts. He used my true trac and my 31 spline billet axles.
Total $2800.
Add in my parts makes it a $5000 diff that will take at least 1000 HP, or 400rwhp with a manual with me driving ;)

202 wouldn't have the grunt to turn a 9", good point..

Pfft.

Show a stock 28 spline 9" a 202 and the diff falls apart in your hands out of pure fear.

Almost done. Need to put oil in and bleed brakes.
Should be on the road tomorrow arvo as long as I'm allowed out to the shed.
I will let you know when in

Who did you use?

I suppose the second problem with that then is locality to me.

I'm thinking I might get A9 to make certain parts for me and ill source and recondition the rest. I'm also thinking stepping back to 31 spline is a better long term solution.

I used Proset Differentials in Melton, Melbourne Victoria.
He builds a great diff, but as you saud, locality may not be ideal for you. I'm sure he will send it to you, but if it were me I would want to talk face to face.

Isn't "Imoral" from up your way? I'm sure he could help out, he seems to be pushing out big power and is reliable

Well, got the diff...and I'm a lot poorer for it but I have an unbreakable diff.

Custom and new everything.

Strange alloy carrier- billet yoke - pinion carrier - strange gears 3.7 ratio - "35" spline eaton true track center and new billet 35 spline axles in hq pattern

New commodore brakes - new cleat style tubular and adjustable upper arms - new tubular lower arms - oil Braided brake lines all ready to bolt in.

$8500

Tail shaft was another $840 from driveline services with billet strange yoke and uni carriers front and back with competition sized uni's.

BUT I CANT BREAK IT !!!! ( not with a plastic engine anyways...)

Yep no problems at all. It's 1 inch shorter over all in length and my new 8.5 inch 5''in back spaced rims sit dead central in the wheel arch. Bags of room from meaty tyres.

Slipped straight in no problems. All the associates parts fitted right in as well including the new handbrake cables to suit the commodore brakes,
