An XU1 is only an XU1.

been in the Red one, crikie, sideways into the next lane.

Edit:-

circa 1982 - NSW plate XU1-008

This was Newcastle,

we were looking at the car and the salesman said,

would you like to go for a spin, we said yes.

So the Salesman was the driver,  and I was in the front and my mate was in the back seat.

I looked back at Greg, and he was in shock.  :furious:

Good point Bruce,

never knew about modifications at the time.  :furious:

XU1 motor Dave ?

P.S.  BTW, the sales price was $6500 at the time, and even though we couldn't afford it,

the XU1 was worth all that.  :spoton:

That also makes no sense either. a GTR is not meant to have an xu1 engine... By that logic if I put a jp block in a GTR it is then an XU-1 ?

Been Technical

a XU1 is a GTR to start with, then you tick the XU1 Performance Package, so a GTR with a XU1 Donk is nearly there :P  :stirpot:

Too bad this thread ran out of steam. I reckon the following:

1st Original JP

2nd Actual replacement NP (with proof)

3rd 1973 Bathurst JP

4th 1972 Bathurst JP

5th Any other NP

6th Any other JP

7th Doesn't matter

Actual values will vary considerably as you go down the list.

^^^  plus one .....  I think,  that is the way the majority of people,  who actually own a GTR- XU-1,  think ...   :)

you blokes are on drugs... how is a 73 bathurst JP of any use in a early 72 car... any other NP would be far better.

7th point, I highly doubt a 138 equipped xu-1 would pull as much as a ql 202 powered one, but could be wrong.

Just to clarify the non original JPs would ideally be the same year but it is probably not critical. 7th point shbe any other 202 - yes l would rather a vk commodore with 3 stamped on the side 😂 but that's splitting hairs as year correct JL or QL would be no different in value.

If you get to #5, you may as well have a 454 Chev with a blower...

I'd like an untouched LJ XU1. Don't care which year and yes with the matching JP motor, hounds-tooth interior. make me very happy.

Values Chart for an excellent vehicle with 3 matching tags and body stamp. These are minimum values not including Bathurst Specials

1. Any LJ XU1 with original JP engine number: $74000 plus

2. Any LJ XU1 with documented NP replacement: $72000 plus

3.1973 XU1 with 1973  Bathurst JP, not original engine $69000 plus

4.1972 XU1 with 1972 Bathurst JP, not original engine $65000 plus

5. Any LJ XU1 with NP replacement not documented engine $63000 plus

6. Any LJ XU1 with JP not original engine $61000 plus

7, Any LJ XU1 with non JP or NP engine $57000 plus

This is just a general guide (the is biased towards my own vehicle configuration) and naturally no two vehicles will be identical condition so actual values will often overlap.

cheers

I am a bit disappointed that my latest post has not started an interesting debate on XU1 values so l will post again. In refering to the previous chart l am going to speculate that you could aad a further $10000 for 72 Bathurst models and $20000 for 73 Bathurst models anywhere on the 1 to 7 scale. l understand that this is contentious as owners of vehicles made between the 2 Bathurst groups regard their cars as equal to the 72 bathurst bunch. But just putting it out there as discussion starter and maybe a bit of a guide to buyers and sellers.

I for one disagree with your assessment, but you may have already guessed i would from previous posts....

Your values are splitting hairs really... only a couple of grand between some of them...

There is no such thing as a 72 Bathurst.  Well not an accepted definition anyway.

Negating the monetary value, I would rank them as below.

Number 4 all being approximately the same value.

Number 5 being very close to number 4 in value, almost tempted to lump number 5 in to number 4.

Numbers 1,2 and 3 worth at least 10-20% more than 4 or 5, everything else being equal.

1. Any LJ XU1 with original JP engine number.

2. Any LJ XU1 with documented NP replacement.

3. Any LJ XU1 with NP replacement not documented engine.

4.1973 XU1 with 1973  Bathurst JP non original JP engine OR 1972 XU1 with 1972 Bathurst JP non original JP engine OR 1972 or 1973 XU1 with 1972 Bathurst JP, non original JP engine.

5. Any LJ XU1 with non JP or NP engine.

l personally reckon a 150 list motor is a great investment in itself. So adding it to any xu1 will boost overall value. ok l am biased l know but the 150 list thing has an exciting cachet that elevates them over a non documented NP. that is partly why the 3 amigos are trying to create doubt ... pure jeolousy.

Just having an XU-1 is enough ... regardless of motor ...  some people don't even have a Torana ............
