I'm keen to understand a bit more about the box looking ridge vents - how do they work compared to the older style spinners?

Just based on convection. The spinners tend to fly off roofs during cyclones. You have to get up on the roof and cover them up with a few wheelie bin bags prior to a cyclone.

Quite interesting - I certainly don't mind the look of them.

For a house you also need to have eave vents obviously so air can be drawn in. Sheds are not as air tight I imagine!

This is the Ridge Vent that I fitted to my old shed. Ive seen some installation where this takes the place of the ridge cap in that section. But I just added this over the top of the existing ridge cap and cut out a section for the throat.

Try this guy for DIY insulation. He lives in your state of QLD. Brilliant stuff and so easy to install, no lifting any sheets, its all magnetic strips! Highly recommend to anyone.
Here is a picture of my shed. I have since insulated the roller doors as well. Its now at least 12 degrees cooler inside.
cheers,
Wayne

That product may be really useful to me mate.
I have been exploring insulation for our double width panel lift garage door.
The door cops full sun until around 11 am, that means the garage is hot as hell even before the day heats up.
Have been looking at the spray on coating and the push in Esky foam type stuff.
Your product looks good, and simple, as long as the magnets don't loose strength over time?
Thanks

Must be rare earth magnets. Would have to be strong?

Thanks Col, I love my cars too!
Yes it is a cheap and easy method to insulate both the shed roof, walls and the roller doors. Check the link I attached earlier and watch his videos of how to install the insulation. Great product and great service. It IS so effective and will address your roller doors. And Brad, yes they are rare earth magnets on metal strips ( you can cut to size). He even supplies additional small spare magnets for any tight spots, such as roof spinners. I get a lot of strong winds where I am and the magnets/insulation have not been affected. As mentioned I would recommend to anyone. My best investment apart from the hoist.

Gene,
The lightweight foil blocks 98% of the radiant heat which is the massive contributor to the overall heat rise inside any shed. Apparently they made this stuff for the Astronauts to wear for their spacewalks. FYI - Adelaide had a 48 degree day earlier this year and the inside air temp reached 33 degrees with the doors closed. I don't have to worry about the interiors of my cars melting anymore, especially the one parked on top. The cars are also cool to touch.

By the way, my shed is identical in size to your shed 9 x 6 metre, colourbond green. I managed to insulate the entire roof, two roller doors and several walls that were exposed to direct sunlight, and then whatever was left over I did my 3 x 5 tool shed roof. In total it cost me $1,100 and the only things I had to do was cut the foil to size, cut the magnetic strips to size and attach it. Probably take you a day to do.

If you go outside the shed and look closely you start seeing little circles of metal shavings etc that stick to the outside of the shed to the magnets. Then they start rusting and staining the outside of the shed etc.

Is the foam insulation fire rated though?
Pretty sure its the stuff that turned a couple of high rise buildings into super candles.
Would be checking on it, and check your insurance policies to see if they have added any fine print excluding it from their liability.
Cheers
