Clarkes torana is an awesome car, heads racing are doing some fantastic stuff with torana's in NZ

However I have zero interest in ls motors. Sometimes easier isn't always better, and there is a real reward when you can get an old Holden moving well. Each to their own I guess

The little paw your also getting thicker decks, thicker webs, 4 bolts on all caps and they have refined some other inherent issues with the holden.
And equvilant chev block will cost same sort of money.
Also going to an LS is usually only worth while if you havent got an engine to start with

If you want to fully prep a factory block for severe use:
Approx prices, this is does not include final machining, which would also need to be done with the TP block.
Cost of block - $500
Hot tank, clean up, tap threads etc - $200
De-dagging, grind out drainbacks etc - $200
Stroker clearancing - $250
Grout fill - $200
4 Bolt mains conversion - $1300
Sleeved lifter bores - $1800 - with quality sleeves
Priority mains oiling conversion - $1500
Total - $5950
After all that you've still got a factory block with softer metal in the bores & less structural rigidity.
Yes you can build a 650-700HP NA factory blocked engine, it'll cost you $25K+, the extra cost for the TP block when building something like that will be lost in the flood & will result in a more reliable & more powerfull engine.
No you don't need one for a 450-500hp street engine, but there is a call for this block out there.
