Hello to All,

I have a very long project that will be finished soon I hope .

I have a BW super T10 in my lx hatchback .

If I use a speco centre shifter , does that mean I will not have to cut the tunnel to clear the linkages ?

Thankyou for your response .

If so I would like to purchase one of these shifters .

Is possible with minimal cutting stretching and linkages can be reversed or remade shifter mechanism leads to console cutting. The mechanism needs space being fitted to side of rear extension housing. with some remade linkages and shifter engineered to bolt closer to housing you can sneak shifter in without cutting console which I recon is the worst part of install. Mines a  Hurst / Mr gasket with shifter bridged to center.

The linkages will still need re-working to suit as they run on the opposite side to the Aussie 4 speed linkages where there is less room.

As above it is also possible to use a Hurst shifter with some modifications.

Hey Guys, Thankyou for the input , I do have a hurst shifter on there atm . Have purchased the bent shifter handle and 4spd knob . Was just hoping not to have to do any tunnel work . Its off to the mechanic in two weeks to be finished . Is a hole cut in the tunnel such a bad thing if done well ?

Bit rich Wayne

gene if you want the bit,s you gotta pay the price

otherwise we would all be driving around in XU-1 torana,s

or A9X hatch backs that we only paid $1000.00 for

and that,s what makes a genuine car worth every cent

may it be wright or wrong it,s the reallity of demand!

if you want it buy it

as everything is only worth what someone will pay

i,ve paid alot for bit,s and considered everyone of them an absolute bargain

I suppose my question is . Buy the centre shifter and have the mechanic work his magic or work with what I already have and get over it . This car has sat in my container for many years because I purchased the gearbox with the motor . I think it would be nice to drive with this combo ? . I could have just purchased a 4 speed anywhere but the T10 is a good box .

any feed back will help

Hey guys , thanks again for your time . Should I send my car to the mechanic with the Speco Centre Shifter ?  or with the items I already have ?

Will post a pic of car when finished .

If you're paying for the time to do the modification work then the Speco shifter is probably still cheaper, even at that price. The Hurst shifter will be stronger/better quality but if poorly modified you could lose that advantage.

Tunnel mods don't matter too much but the main thing is to get it inboard far enough that it doesn't interfere with the console if you're planning to have one.

My original install had tunnel cut to accept mechanism. Then a open sided box flanged to bolt screw to tunnel .This covered in carpet and console cut around  box protruded out the side of console maybe 25mm.Hardly noticed it but removing console required box removal prior. All this done at home with a arc welder grinder drill. Now having more toys the box is gone with a new uncut console it helps to have good tooling making the finished project as it can be done in a professional workshop.
