If you're not going to run the brightwork around the windows, definitely paint it like the red one.
Sounds awesome. What style of wheels Dave? Even though they are narrow, the longer diff will at least sit them out pretty well I'd think.

I have stripped all the paint of both sides, and onto the roof. Should be finished tonight with the grinder, and will need a bit of work in some corners where the grinder can't reach. And the garage looks like this. I did put a curtain with plastic drop sheets, so it's mostly contained in one section of the garage.

I think you can take the number plate off now David lol
LOL
Looks solid mate. Not that it looked bad when I saw it with the paint still on there.

I was going to put a couple of coats of 2k primer on it after I sand it down, but he wants me to use some other product.
What is the general way guys do the paint and panel?
My plan- I will put a couple of protective coats on it. Then assemble it with all of the panels (once they are stripped and have a protective coat). Align all the panels and set the panel gaps. Then when it's all straight and everything looks right, disassemble it again. Paint all the insides, and then re assemble and get the finish coats sprayed in a booth.

It does seem a bit odd that it's still on the car. There really isn't much left on the body besides that. The rotisserie is in the way now, lol.

There isn't much left I can do on the body until the mobile blaster comes. So in the mean time I started stripping the motor. I will get it rebuilt to pretty much standard spec. Not sure. I have VN heads here, but want the original rocker covers. So will stay with the old heads. Not sue if I should stay with the oem exhaust, or go extractors. Happy to get the oem ones sandblasted and coat them. Pretty much rebuilding it so it looks like new.

I pulled down the front end. Took longer than I thought it would take. I bought the bits down to get the bushes pressed out and noticed that the upper arms are different to each other. So went back home picked up the spare pair, and it turns out, even tho I bought 3 UC hatches, I only have 1 UC UCA. Might have to track down another. I am getting the bushes pressed out of all 4 anyway.
Most likely buy a complete front end kit from Kingswood country.
And I went down and bought the epoxy primer, and a bunch of other bits. Almost bought the colour. But thought I would wait. Just in case I change my mind. But pretty sure it will be Red Hot, or Sting Red. Pretty sure it's the same colour. I did have my old VE SV6 touched up after someone hit it while parked and never left a note. The paint was darker on the repair. So there might be 2 shades..
With the wheels, they are HQ pattern and the new diff and front brakes are commodore. What is the best method for making this work?
I was thinking of having the holes drilled oversize at the correct pcd. Then using a ring insert, or thicker nuts. It's only 0.65mm difference. So the wheel will bolt on as is.

I dropped the bits off to get sandblasted, and will pick them up on Saturday. The guys said I should paint them, not powder coat them.
The motor is being pulled down today too. They had it mostly apart when I was there. It is a 30 thou overbore, so hopefully just needs a hone.

I assumed you brushed them rather then spray as they suggest- did it go on smoothly without brush marks?
Very interested as I'm a month or so from doing mine.

But I would go powder coating next time. Powder coating will find its way into all the shapes. Brushing is very tricky and time consuming. About 5 hrs to do 2 coats on the front subframe and all suspension arms.

I prepped and painted the clappers and uprights too. I should have the front end completely assembled tonight. Then I can do the prep and paint on the diff.
Still waiting on the sand blaster. He said Saturday now.
