Nothing outrageous. Probably 225 and 245's.

I prepped and painted the underside today. Sound deadener coat with chassis black over the top. Should be quite as a mouse. Front end can go in tomorrow. Yay.

Hell yeah!

Looks fantastic.

That UC boot floor is very different to LX - the tank strap tabs at the back, upwardly beveled centre and that strange looking fin on a 45 degree angle - what is that fin about?

Just a thought - do you want the chassis rails in body colour which I believe is OEM - Sure I will be corrected at the speed of light if I am not...

If OEM matters it may be easier to remedy now.

If it doesn't, then play-on I say!

Cheers, TB

I will leave it all black. The engine bay will be body coloured. Not sure what fin you are referring to. But the only thing not oem is an exhaust pick up point for dual exhaust. Must have had a V8 in it.

Craig, that does look like a fin in the pic but it's the underside spare wheel space.  Cheers Ron

I am at the tyre shop. I asked for 225/40 and 245/40. They fitted them up and the front are 45 profile. So they are swapping to 205/45 so the fronts are smaller in height.
Looked shit. Apparent you can't buy 225/40's.

Not much progress, but it is rolling and I cleaned up its parking area, looks like Finkel at the front. Or is it Einhorn?

So I went for a drive today to pick up the A9X body kit with brake ducts and all. I saw my old wagon that I sold 6-7 years ago. Still looks the same, even the wheels. And a tree down across the road. Driving to Cockatoo there was small branches and bark hitting my car as I drov along. I hope there are no dents. Also picked up my new seat trim too. No pics yet. It's in a box.

I am making a new inner frame mould for another project. And in between drying time, I have been prepping the panels. Had to finish by hand all the bits the sandblaster missed. So much quicker doing it with a sandblaster. Basically spent half a day on the 2 doors and the 2 front guards. I just started on the hatch, will continue after dinner. The plastic strip disc isn't really taking the paint off. The bonnet and hatch have been stripped previously, and primed with a brown, then grey. The brown doesn't want to come off very easy. Might have to use the orbital and some rough paper. The brown layer might be red lead?
The doors have some rust. This doir has rust in the front corner, and the opening side has no rust. I just see more hours of work ever time I do more to it.

Once I have prepped it all,I can prime everything and start bolting the car back together ready for the panel beater. I have done zero rust or dent repairs to this car. But I will do the final finish.

Bonnet and hatch sanded and paint stripped, as are all the little fiddley bits. Only the nosecone to go now. Then it can all be epoxy primed.

Yay... It's all in epoxy primer. :) I can't wait to bolt it back together and bolt the body kit on. It will look like a car again.

This is the moment/stage of the build I have been waiting for. Everything stripped, prepped and epoxy primed. And bolted back together with the A9X body kit. Time to crack open a beer....

The body kit fits millimetre perfect. I didn't touch it, just bolted it on. It's from Hornet fibreglass. 03 59688501
The front spoiler needed a little flexing, but nothing really bad. The brake duct holes on the front spoiler are much much deeper than the other spoiler I have here. Good thing too, as I bought brake ducts from him as well.

One thing I noticed is the guards are not as high as the Alfa ones. So the cut outs I did on the 1/4 panels are only just covered now., and the top 2 bolts will need tabs welded on. The tyre will be closer to the flare, and look better as a bonus. The Alfa flare sat about 15-20mm higher at the top. There are a few holes from fitting the Alfa flares that will need to be welded up.

Nice job mate...

Love your vision to see that old Hatch and have a plan to get it to where you are now.

Fantastic.

And pretty bloody fast too.

I didn't have a vision at first, just wanted a Hatch. My plan came after I did some research. I suppose it was always going to have flares. I am thinking as its a replica A9X I should keep it an original colour. So Mandarin red is top of the list now. It will have plain chrome bumpers to keep the A9X theme going. I have a pair here, but they will need rechroming at some stage. I will concentrate on getting the paint done for now, and keep what little funds I have left for that. These things chew up so much money and time. If I am not working on it, I am looking for parts or info.

Thanks that is great info as i'm about to replace some old cracked plastic 30 odd year old flares.

Mine to are fitted quite high so the Alpha ones may be the go.

Why did you go away from the Alpha flares? did they not fit as well?

I dropped the car off for panel work on Saturday. And he wanted the taillight, door catches, etc so he can get it all right. Since the car isn't here I started on the seat trim. I figured the back seat base was a good place to start. It's actually pretty easy, if the covers fit perfect. These are not made the same as oem. Close, but not the same. The rear seat back rests do not have the carpet as part of the trim. But I guess a few staples and glue will have it all looking close to oem.

It's still about 2 weeks before the panel work gets started, the car is sitting in his shop waiting. In the mean time, I had thoughts of painting it Lava Orange. What do you guys think?
I like the idea of Mandarin red, but it doesn't pop enough.
