Dont know why you would bother putting a ford head on a Holden 6 seriously
but a fool and his money

Agree, didn't think i would be on your side Geno, but some people wont learn, all that time and money and in the end its a boat anchor that's worth nothing.

I think all that matters is the skin Gene,

what's inside it is irrelevant, unless of course if you are an original supporter,

which there are quiet a few members here like that.   :spoton:

I wonder how heavy a Ford L6 block is bare,

compared to a Holden L6 block bare?

Same same firing order.

The question still stands though, wouldn't it be easier to transplant say an FG XR6 engine than try to graft the Ford head onto the red6? Taking aside of course one's unholy attraction to said red6's? Personally I wouldn't bother with either and just fit a V8, but that is another matter.

Absolutely nothing, but why should someone go out and blatantly try to offend someone for the above unholy attraction?

I stopped commenting on peoples threads where they were doing things to cars I didnt like, unless they did something as a part of that that I did like in which case I could comment positively, purely because I realized I was being a frOckhead.

It seems a lot of people a lot older and a lot smarter than me still have not realized that.

Stating fact is one thing, but stating someone is stupid for doing something is a whole different ballpark as I learnt a fair while ago.

Why would you need to when it's been proven by a Sydney guy that a factory based 9 port can go 10.27@128 na.

There's a perfectly good reason Gene - in a lot of racing classes the rules stipulate that the engine must be production based and from the same manufacturer as that of the vehicle. The make of the engine is usually determined by the make of the block, so if the block is Holden it doesn't matter if the rest of it was made by Great Wall, as far as the rulebook is concerned it's a Holden.

As far as the use of a Ford head goes, there's a pretty straightforward reason for that too. There simply isn't anything else available - production or aftermarket - that has the potential of the 4 valve Ford head. I don't pretend that the combination has been anywhere near fully developed, but for someone with the time to do it they could certainly build a winner.

Hope this helps.

Good answer ^^^

As has prolly become quite obvious, I don't care for original stuff too much. I prefer hotroding/customising/building cool shit. The idea of building a quick six by adapting cheap parts that were never meant to go together ticks a lot of boxes for me. I'd be waaaaaaaaay more impressed by the guy who gets a DOHC Ford head to work on a Holden 6 than the guy who pays $4000 for a Duggan/Irving or whatever head.

There was no attempt to offend anyone Blocker, none at all. No-one said it was stupid either, on the contrary it would be quite an achievement and worthy of respect. All I said was surely it would be far less work to use an existing whole engine that try and mate two things together that were never intended to be. Oldjohnno pretty much tells us why one would do it though, and that I understand.

Sometimes people do things precisely because they are difficult and therefore hugely rewarding. If the end product was all that mattered we'd all just drop LSx's into everything with wheels. But for some it's all about the journey, not so much the destination.

I get it, just wondered if the Falcon 6 had been tried. Probably not into LC-LJ but in a Holden or a bigger Torana. I imagine the fitment of a complete FG 6 and matching transmission into a Holden would probably be almost as big an effort anyway.

Hi Yel,

could be that a head job is a lightweight project,

that can rest in your work bench cupboard.

Where as a whole drive-train conversion,

 requires heavy lifting equipment.

Mr Johnston had a triumph stag,

 with a Leyland 4.4V8,

Ford automatic and a Jag independent rear end,

Because he wanted comfort.

Didn't someone post a photo of one with a complete Ford engine here a while back? Dimensionally they're almost identical so probably wouldn't be too hard to fit.

An FG Turbo 6 would certainly be a neat way to get a pollution restricted Holden series (HX-WB) up and going without going down the LS path. They look to be a rear hump sump as well. I imagine in a lightweight car like a tonner (less than around 1400kg with an alloy tray) one of these would scare most similar cars with an LS conversion. I suppose the same would apply to a LH-UC fitment wise. Not sure how big the auto trans is though, should fit in a Holden easily though, not sure about a Torana. Interesting idea though.

The Ford auto would go in fine.
Smaller at the top side than a T700/4l60e.
I have one in my shop now if dimensions are required.

Lol @ dudes with no imagination or (alarmingly so) an aversion to rodding.

Apparently they can be made to go OK... and the underbonnet sandwich toaster works really well.

Helping a mate put a BA XR6-T engine and box in his VG pacer atm.

Biggest hurdle there is the sump, as above there a rear hump, for the val we need front hump.

Would be a trivially easy conversion into most any Holden or Torana I recon... Though the box is biggish.

Cheers.

Its mad isn't it? The best bang for buck modern front hump sump is an LS engine, for a Ford or a Chrysler. Looks like one of the best bang for buck modern rear hump engines might be a turbo Ford 6 for a HQ onwards Holden or LH onwards Torana!

Is the BA block similar at all to the older XG-XH engines? Aren't they a front hump sump like an XY-XC Cleveland?
