Well, modifying parts is what we do best,

and the Ford 9" has been modified to the point,

where it has a fabricated sheet metal housing,

 an aftermarket alloy diff housing.

Anyhow,

I am still trying to get pictures of the Ford Head,

conversion pictures to suit the little red/blue/black six.

The Barra blocks have a huge front hump design. New pan/pickup required for old Holden conversions......but that shouldn't put anyone off!!

Helping a mate put a BA XR6-T engine and box in his VG pacer atm.

Biggest hurdle there is the sump, as above there a rear hump, for the val we need front hump.

Would be a trivially easy conversion into most any Holden or Torana I recon... Though the box is biggish.

Cheers.

Is Territory sump different? :dontknow:

You can make a 9 inch from completely aftermarket bits, have done for years. Group A commodores used a "Harrop 9 inch" remember. Also there have been a few VL commodores with built Barra 6's.

Didn't someone post a photo of one with a complete Ford engine here a while back? Dimensionally they're almost identical so probably wouldn't be too hard to fit.

I think I may have posted a photo somewhere. Can't find it now.
It was a VK Commodore with a ford motor. Can't remember if it was turbo or not.
I saw it at the drags, again, can't remember his times either. Was a while ago

Personally, I'd much rather drop a 245/265 in with aftermarket injection. Or the Chev 292. At least they will look almost similar at a glance.

And... whats wrong with the Supra box?? My first one was in for over 11 years before 'checking' another that's still in there... after another 12!

id put a ford head on a red 6, because its different, why be the same as everyone else?

mate has a 265 vg coupe, mild cam, 500 edelbrock, extractors and exhaust, beats 5lt commodores, and bf xr6's, its different to what everyone else has, its amazing how well 2 19yr olds can road tune a car, by looking at plugs and feeling how well it goes, and once we did get hold of an 02 sensor, we were pretty spot on,

my next 202, will be blown and injected and street driven, only "cause i can" ahaha

A few years ago there was a guy I met once called Damian Johnson. At the time he was the front of counter man at Harrop engineering. He had a Torana sport sedan and possibly the largest collection of broken conrods and pistons out of a red 6 that I have ever seen!. He showed me a red 6 with a Ford head and injection on it, from memory an XF Falcon head, and another block he was preparing as a spare. Bottom line, compared to a Holden the "Honda" designed head has valves like dinner plates as well as a superior cross flow port arrangement. To fit up you need to drill and tap some studs, close off some others and get a very special camshaft ground because of the different firing position of ( if memory serves me) the exhaust positions, however he went from a hand grenade, rev the nuts off it Holden to a rev it to 6000rpm Folden and I think he said he had over 400 hp. Like I said , he worked with Ron Harrop, need more be said . There is probably abit more to the conversion to what I have listed, but worth some thought

Honestly the OHC varients are a lot easyer to fit than the x flow pushrod heads.

If I wasnt lazy, and actually ahd something to put it into, the DOHC one I was playing with would be going by now, not a whole lot to it really.

Cheers.

Sounds good DJ,

wasn't sure which one's was the easiest to install ( one or two cam heads ),

at least this way, we don't need a new camshaft to suit the push rod version.

Always wanted to use the variable mechanically cabin controlled idler's,

to vary the inlet and exhaust cam timings.  :spoton:

Great information coming in here.

Edit:-

was wondering if anyone knows what these heads get done to them porting wise?

All new to me.

Just found out,

that Ford asked Yamaha to design the crossflow,

and then Honda had to cast them,

because Ford couldn't at the time.

Probably why they are called Honda Heads.

Edit:-

p.s. a proper crossflow,

is when the inlet and exhaust ports,

 are inline across the head.
