Just upgraded the Hilux's front rotors and calipers today. Got sick of the woeful front rotor size on these.

Mine is a mid 2011 so came standard with 15" rims and small brakes.

You can see in the pictures the size difference.

The old rotors were 297mm x 23mm.

The new rotors are 338mm x 26mm. These are the same as 120 series Landcruiser, and what Toyota put on the TRD Hilux. I could have gone for 338mm x 29mm too (150 series Landcruiser) but I couldn't find one of these in the wreckers to get calipers off.

All I needed off the 120 series was the backing plates and the calipers, simple bolt on operation. Took far longer to rebuild the calipers than it did to do the changeover.

You have to run 17" rims, mine are 120 Landcruiser Prado Grande 17x7.5" painted black with 265/65/17 tyres.

Brakes are heaps better already but I think there is still a few bubbles in there, those 4 piston calipers aren't super easy to bleed. Might have to use a proper bleeding tool rather than a tube and a glass jar!

If anyone is interested in this upgrade it is easy. Rebuilding the calipers is the biggest challenge, but you can pay for someone to do that for you if you aren't confident. The next hardest thing is getting the nut off the hub and using a 1" brass drift to knock the drive axle loose from the spines so you can pull the hub off and swap the backing plates over. To get the 35mm nut undone I had to use a 1200mm pipe extension on the socket and arm, and use a 1500mm long piece of angle lodged in the wheel studs. Came off but some force required!

There is a smaller brake upgrade that you can do too, buy using 2012 onwards brakes off 17" wheel Hiluxes, these are 319mm x 26mm.

nice one Yel.

those Prado 120 rotors can warp  every now and then....be interesting to see if they do it on a different car ( lighter")?

These are Aussie made T3 rotors, not original Toyota. They have the better cooling mechanisms  like the internal venting and the slots on the face so should be far better than originals. The ones I took off at T3's as well,  I replaced the originals at about 40,000kM as they were cooked. These V6 Hiluxes only weigh about 1900kg so a fair bit lighter than a 'cruiser.
