So I gather the photo above of the HSV ute is not in that category.
If you bought one today it would have vents?

This

That is exactly what i'd buy except an SSV and add the front brake upgrade, same colour. Pull the 19" wheels and tyres off and put plain black 18" and 245/45/18 tyres on it. For $3000 more I want the SSV with the full leather trim and the other few upgrades it has. I can't see another $6000 value in an SSV Redline though, plus I don't want different size front and rear wheels.

Already talked to an Engineer about putting it on a GU Patrol chassis in a few years. If I do it i'll keep my eyes out for a flood writeoff VF shell as my template. No car maker will import what I want so i'll have to build it myself.

an AMG 63 is a Mercedes ??

an FPV GT is a Falcon

a Shelby GT 350 is a Mustang

a Yenko Camaro is a Chev Comaro

a HVS Clubsport is a Commodore .......................................................................................   In My Humble Opinion..   :)

PS.......  your wife's car is very nice Gene ...

But a VF Ute isn't a Commodore regardless if it's a Holden or a HSV! At least with the sedans one of them is a Commodore (unless it's a Calais).

Just Saying .............   From HSV's Website ....  :)

Australian made muscle cars took on a new maturity when HSV opened its doors to the public in February 1988.

The establishment of the partnership between General Motors Holden and the British Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) group was a major coup not just for performance car connoisseurs, but also for the local industry.

The new operation began with a clear set of goals and a carefully structured business plan. The aims were simple: the brief was to maintain the tradition of Holden-based performance sedans originally established by Peter Brock’s Holden Dealer Team.

HSV’s first task was clear-cut: it was to get the recently unveiled TWR Group A VL Commodore into production. To do this, newly appointed Managing Director John Crennan embarked on a mission to sign up about 30 people capable of doing the job at the newly established Notting Hill facility in Melbourne’s south-east.

If any proof of the fledgling HSV’s credibility was needed, it was certainly there just three years later, when the company built its 5,000th vehicle.

HSV today is an important part of Holden operations with dealers across Australia and New Zealand and an enviable reputation for innovation and technological achievement. With over 80,000 vehicles built for Australian and international markets, the company has taken luxury and performance motoring to a whole new level.

With the combination of total factory support and a team of gifted engineers and designers, the Melbourne-based company has developed a reputation for being the originator of some of the best sporting sedans ever built in this country.

Yel327 I like your idea. But why dont you just buy a GU ute and put a 4.8 with a turbo in it. Should make around 300RWKW without to much drama. Cheers Aaron.

Have you driven one? They are uncomfortable pigs to drive and you can't get an auto one. About the only thing less comfortable is the Landcruiser equivalent. I looked at a Patrol but to convert one to an LS2/3 and 6L80E it's like $25k, and despite being uncomfortable there is no cruise, dual zone climate, ABS, reverse camera etc etc. I know i'm talking converting a new one in 2-3 years, but if I bought a 2012 SSV now for $25k, the rolling Ti chassis minus engine and box is about $4k. Engine mount kit for GU and power steer lines less than $2k. Steering shafts and body mounts less than $1000. $3-4k Engineering. Plus whatever re-routing the exhaust needs, and ECU reprogramming for ABS sensors and speedo.. Makes for a pretty reasonably priced truck that can legally tow what a GU can tow, will get VE/VF V8 like economy (plus a bit due to the extra 300 odd kg it's lugging) especially highway when the cylinder shutdown kicks in. Plus if I CAD up all mods and Engineer it right I might build more?
The only challenges are making the VF electric handbrake operate the GU system and what to do with the GU transfer case stick.
Gene, is the handbrake an electric actuator operating traditional cables? Or are they in the calipers? Would the calipers be relocatable to a Patrol?

Stubborness has nothing to do with it. Thats the trouble with facts, there is only correct answer.

I bought a new 2016 VF SS/V wagon. I thought I would just use it if the wife uses her car (she normally walks to work), and that way I can save on fuel (she has a new Mazda 3). But the car sounds so good, and goes so well, I don't drive her car at all. I have done almost 3000km's since buying it new 5 weeks ago (mostly to buy Torana hatchbacks, and parts). I love the crackle and pop on the over run. I am often in manual mode to get the most out of the awesome sound with the windows down.

You are so right Gene, they are World Class.  Australians have always been great designers & engineers, And the VF2 proves it. what a beautiful big car..  I followed a dark green VF Calias,  and a late model big BMW the other day, and in my mind, the VF looked better, and would be half the price..

I love it when I see someone in a late model HSV ,  I like the fact that they probably have the money to buy the status symbol cars that most people with money feel they need to buy. but he bought a Senator or GTS   These last Commodores in what ever style or fitment are awesome value for money..  And what HSV have done with the VF Commodore is spectacular in my opinion ... And if I had the doe, I would by a HSV VF 2 in a heart beat.  There will be plenty of time for the Euro cars when the Commodore is no more ..  :(

I bought the VF ute because not to many cars on the market can give you a ute that drives like a sedan and has more power than most cars on the market for the price
i intend to keep this ute in my collection for a long time
hope i can keep my licence though

It's a nice ute Gene, but it won't get you into Fish Creek! Do the utes come with the same exhaust as the sedans? And do they sound as good as what the magazines are saying?
