Wanting to confirm this is a genuine 253 v8 car as I've been told? Manual or auto?

Curious to know what the original colour is too?

It's a base model, paint it whatever you want! It will more than likely be a column shift 3spd manual or trimatic. Might be lucky and get a console shift but not as common.

Sometimes V8 base cars turn up. We think people ordered them to avoid high insurance premiums. The only 350 auto HQ Monaro turned up on Ebay a few months ago, and the odd 308 4spd Belmont or Kingswood turn up that aren't Sandman, GTS or SS. There was also one 350 manual HQ Kingswood sedan. The rumours about L31 LH sedans that aren't SLR's are probably for the same reason.

They definitely do exist. A friend had a non-SL/R L32 LH with trimatic. It had 4.2 badges on the front guards & boot but apart from that it looked rather ordinary.

There only a rumor not 1 S or SL L31 Torana has ever been shown to me to exist. People tell me they have seen them but no photos have been shown to prove it, cheers Aaron.

Yeah, I'm sure a non-SL/R, non-SS L31 has been discussed here before.

People say the same thing about 350 powered HQ Monaro or Kingswood, 308 4spd HQ Statesman etc. They did exist but very rare. L31 LH or LX S or SL will be the same. You'll never find one if you go looking, but they have turned up - not seen one myself though.

There is 2 forum members one owned a 4.2 litre LH S sedan the other a 5.0 litre LX SL hatch
there was a pic of the sedan and im pretty sure the hatch owner posted a pic as well he will be back on the weekend and i will ask him
but like Byron said they did exist
if you didnt grow up in that era of course you would of never seen one

Thinking about it I recall it being a L31, but maybe a SL Sedan, not hatch.. .. Was in Brisbane so likely a different car.... Not sure hiw seeing a V8 SL from the outside when I was young would help... I would not have recognised the difference between the sound of a 253 or 308...
