The EH thread

Back in the year 2000 a turn of events occurred that saw a good friend leave his life & possessions behind him, far too early & a tough time for all concerned. Left in the shed was an incomplete vn ss copping an engine build complete with a vl grp a twin throttle manifold, and down the back, the beloved EH resting under a blanket of dust. Being a sentimental kinda guy, I suggested to his dad that if at any stage was he thinking of letting it go, give me a call first. Some 6 years later, that's what happened.
Last shown as a roller in the 1978 Hot Rod Spectacular at the Wayville Showgrounds, it had been fully resprayed, detailed to the max, decorated in yellow & chrome. Every nut & bolt had been ground down & chromed, door & bonnet hinges chromed, diff u bolts & brackets, control arms, steering arms chromed, drum brake springs & mechanisms chromed..... You get the idea. Larger parts were painted in yellow.
My mate ended up buying it mid 90's & simply dropped his driveline in from his eh.
So I buy it in 2007 as a roller too, and with a 186 & gearbox but not fitted to it. I've since gone through a few different engine combos, manual to auto, then back to manual, fitted up an hr front end with hq discs and a narrowed Borg Warner disc brake rear. Along the way I added some doglegs, guard spears, rear vision mirrors & put its "special" badges back on for a little bling. Picked up some roof gutter trims recently that I'll tidy up & fit shortly aswell.
Interior consists of prem seats, door card chrome, smiths gauges and a mis-match of colour (but I'm not really an interior guy - can you tell?) Oh yeah, fitted the 15 x 4/8.5" convos when the stud pattern got changed over also.
I also did something pretty cool which I hadn't seen done before, custom make a radiator to fit in front of the area where it would originally mount. This was to gain space to mount a descent thermo & to stop the bloody thing overheating. Used an S80 Volvo fan turned upside down & cut down. Filler sits in a modified hr top hose & lower hose is a cut down vs v8.
So now I needed to put together another donk to get it moving again since the beemer seems to have stolen it. It's a std bore vl prefix 202 that has been freshened at some stage, a low comp stage 3 9 port head, crow solid cam with around .520" lift, modified standard rockers (lol!), electronic ignition, blue 3.3 timing cover & balancer, crank drilled & tapped for retaining bolt also. A big thanks to the forum members who helped out with the go fast bits too. That's the head (Orangelj), cam (Chevlx77) & ignition (Ice). Cheers all. It's no race engine, just a streeter, so it had to sound good. Unsure of carby choice at the moment, but I'm sure you guys can help me out with that. 350 Holley or twin Strombergs?

Or go the twins.

May I ask what happened to the VN SS?
The vn still lives on, is driven more than all of my cars put together & gets upgraded each year by his dad. Goes well too.

I'm trying to stay away from triples with this one Mic, I know it's got a big solid cam in it, but I want to tame it down & keep it "nice". Must be getting older eh?

And after clocking up a few kays to make sure things were gonna hold together I put a kit through the carb & sent it off for a few minor tweaks. Well it uses a heap less fuel now! As for power, I couldn't care less what it's got. It sounds chunky & it's nice just having a car you can get in & drive. Happy days ahead, cruising time

Bone stock, white walls, venitians 2 speed powerglide, it's pretty bland compared to what else is on offer but you just know there won't be any drama.

Nice Jonesy!!
I'm still partial to the triples but you can't argue with this setup. Being able to pick up the boys from school and drive it to work is definitely a plus. Its those rides that will have them wanting their own.
Can't wait for a ride next year.
