A mate of mine has a 73 xu1 and sent all the tag codes to Holden and the paper work they sent back said the car was originally sold as a trimatic auto. Has anyone ever heard of an xu1 with factory option auto??

And yes they said it was a genuine xu1 1973 but originally sold as an auto

There was a white GTR that was factory auto but never heard of an XU1 that would be rare

Never heard of an XU1 optioned with a trimatic.

I'll bet the Torana listed above or below this XU1 on the microfiche has the auto not the XU1. The person extracting the info will have made a mistake.

edit: Come to think of it I'm sure I recently saw a 1973 XU1 on the Warranty Service Records with an auto tranny serial number recorded against it but the BETSBAC says it has the XU1 4spd manual transmission.

I'll have to have another look and make sure I'm not imagining it.

Mistake by Holden almost certainly. These records are full of errors too.

Experimental Engineering converted two LJ GTR's to Auto to see how they would go as a Auto car, I think they had XU1 Donks in them to see how the combo would work , I believe they were  000 M GMH Port Melbourne 1972 Adelaide built LJ GTR's.

I am sure the Auto GMH GTR has popped up on the Forum before, I don't believe there is any other Auto Cars other that the Experimental Engineering ones.

The white GTR in question was a 2/70 Melbourne build. The auto was fitted to the new vehicle by the seller Reg Hunt Holden of Elsternwick. The purchaser was charged $330 extra for the service which not a factory option on the 82911 model. A factory auto option on applicable models was normally $235.

That's what I thought Bazza, Dealer fitted not factory optioned. I still can't find the thread it was discussed in.

Hi

The TSN recorded against this PSN is nothing like the contemporaneous transmission numbers recorded - hence most likely an input error.

Might not mean much but the according to the natrad book my radiator replacement core was to suit a GTR XU1 with air con and Auto transmission

Spot on but the noobs at GMH fulfilling those vehicle information requests probably don't realise that.

Agree DAVE, plus it doesn't help that for some Series the BETSBAC code application changes. If you read them without understanding the vehicle you read it wrong. Example HJ shows the code for front discs where they were optioned, if they are standard the code still shows drums. I think XU1 and LSD is like this too.
However the actual build of each vehicle is almost always correct as that data comes from the production scheduling data, it is the stuff entered post-production that is often wrong. One of the most common errors is the info is entered against a mistyped PSN
