I seem to recall it is OK, as long as I don't put the brace over the drivers side door?

This is an extract from the open Q&A session between the RTA/RMS and the Motoring Enthusiasts group ,
held at Eastern creek in 2012....hope it helps....
33. Why can’t roll cages be used in vehicles as long as they are designed and constructed
properly?
Yes, roll cages can be used in vehicles.
The relevant standard is the requirement in clause 21 of Schedule 2 of the Regulation that everything
in a vehicle’s construction and operation must not pose a danger to any person.
NSW is of the view that four-point roll cages can still meet this requirement. Six point roll cages
cannot, however, because the configuration of a six-point roll cage creates a rigid item directly in the
head-strike area and obstructs the driver’s vision through the windscreen and adjacent side windows.
A six point roll cage may nevertheless be installed in a vehicle if the front part is removed when the
vehicle is used on a road or road-related area.
Guidance on the fitting of roll cages can be found in Section LK to VSB 14, National Code of Practice
for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification.

yep, I assumed the question related to the legality of road use.?All legal cages now are fabricated from
chromoly,mild steel..
But you are certainly right Maz, unless the alloy cage was log booked in the car via CAMs before 1985??, then its just seen
as a nice period accessory for track work. i.e. it doesnt exist for safety purposes.
Agent 34 has been thru this.

Is it just a Myth I have heard, or is it true that, "If you install a roll cage to a car, you must also wear a helmet when driving it"
I heard this somewhere, some time ago. And it was because most roll bars could cause head injuries in an accident, if your not wearing a helmet ??? any truth to this?.

Wonder what the law is for Road Rego'd Rally Cars ?? They race & then drive on public roads between each race section ??
Why would it be illegal to wear a helmet ?.. surly it's not because of hearing issues, as there must be many hearing impeded drivers on the road. and they (RTA) do test eyesight, but I have never had to have a hearing test..
I guess it could be for the same reason as roll bars/cages... If not everyone in the car was wearing helmets, I guess head to helmet clashes could happen ??
Pretty interested to find out now though ....

Seen a few xw-y falcons with them enigineered..apparently need certain amount of head clearance & padded where head may contact.
Wasnt cheap nor easy to get the clearance required even on such a big car, could barely tell it was caged untill up close...there were a few of them done all 9-10sec foulcans.
Rally reg would be one...suspect would be very limited driving & strict conditions.
