Hi all,

Apologies if I've missed finding this in another thread, but hoping any experts out there can confirm if chassis number CLX044XXXM is LX SS hatch?

Certain its not A9X but would it then be SS or was CLX 0... also reserved for standard S/L hatch also?

Many thanks!

Hi there, without the original tags it's just a hatchback shell. It's hard to determine what it may have been originally without them.

Cheers Mick

CLX just means it's the third "series" of the LX model. Series changes usually coincide with ADR revisions.

There's nothing to be gleaned from a chassis number alone, they were simply a numerical sequence allocated across the entire Torana range, it didn't matter if it was a hatch or sedan, A9X or Sunbird, it was just whatever came down the line next got the next number.

CLX044xxxM is likely a June '77 compliance (so a few months early for an A9X) but, as above, without tags it doesn't really matter what it was, you have no way to prove it.

Cheers Mick, Red, Big.. noted.

Was just hoping there may have been a sure fire lead in there to confirm SS.

Thanks again!

SL hatches had the silver trim around the tail lights and so the panel had holes for the trim's pins to insert:

Thread on the trims here: http://www.gmh-toran...-mounting-lugs/

Photo of trim in place below:

Not sure about Sunbird hatch having these but SS variants didn't have this trim or holes.

The QLD Torana Club says Sunbird hatch was not released until mid 1977 which is right around Bigfella's estimated build time of you car: http://www.qtcc.org.au/lx_specs.php

Might be something to check to get you on the scent (assuming the rear valance hasn't been replaced at some stage).

Cheers, TB

Hi T.B

The OP has already covered this in his first thread about an LX hatch identification.

Go and talk to Holden Historical Services. For some LH-LX you can figure out what the PSN of the car was from the chassis number.
