HI Col
The revised type. BTW they are mounted incorrectly.
Your mission, if you accept it, is to establish "In what manner are they incorrectly fitted?"

Also, is that rubber insertion strip original fitment?

Dave
I thought that was odd too, but can't find any reference to it. In any event, that's not the answer.

Yeah it's not the answer to the clamp question but it's still a valid question on a different issue.
Bazza, that reference you found about the GTR stabilizer in Nov 1970. What publication was that in if you don't mind me asking? There is no reference to it in the October - December 1970 Dealer Service Letters. Any service issues like that are usually published in the Dealer Service Letters.
Cheers
Dave.

12/73 Brisbane.
At best three quarters right (one nut missing!)
At least these ones are a fair distance apart, which I thought was the way they should be

Sorry Kev, still not the correct fitment.

Hi Dave I didn't think they were right, that's just the way they were on the car when I bought it! I reckon the clamps need to be swung around so the nuts point straight down in the photo.
And Gene what's dodgy? Me or my car? Or both? LOL!

Hi
Well, despite Kev missing one of his nuts - he is closest to the pin.
Note also the revised torque specifications - from the original 8 -10 lb.ft. (as per the LC Shop Manual) to 35-40 lb.ft.
Col - Thank you for your sacrifice, the Torana fraternity specifically, and the free world in general, owe you a debt of gratitude in furthering the body of knowledge surrounding GTR stabiliser U-bolts.
Dave - around Nov-Dec 1967, I signed the "Official Secrets Act', an undertaking that I do not take lightly
Cheers

Thanks Bazza, however I feel I should inform you the torque specs quoted in the above article were again revised during LJ production plus measurements were also published for the positioning of the stabilizer bar and clamps.
Holden's have informed me they will sue me if I publish this information without their written consent.

Not dumb and yes the 82911 model had a front stabilizer bar as std equipment.
Posted 21 October 2016 - 09:53 PM
Col. you need to rotate your clamps through 180 degrees and move one clamp closer to the end of the sway bar.
And remove that piece of rubber.

Hi
Here Kev and Col - here is Fig 1 missing from my earlier post. It better explains the correct order of assembly.

Ta for the info....might leave well enough alone, been like it for decades, will ponder the forces at play...

Another variation on the theme and once again incorrect.
Seems the correct assembly of these little suckers has confused many over the years.

Hi Bazza,
Mine are fitted the same as that diagram on the xu-1,original clamps and bar.
Regards John.

Found it.
STABILIZER SHAFT ATTACHMENT REVISED- TORANA GTR
The attachment of the front stabilizer shaft to the suspension control arms of Torana 'GTR' cars has been revised to obviate relative movement between stabilizer, control rod and clamps. The revision comprises a new U bolt of 3/8 in. diameter, with corresponding changes to the U bolt seat plate, and release of new nuts and washers.
There is no reference to the above revision being a recall or a warranty issue and no mention of clamp breakages either.
