Hi all, was looking through my LC parts manual and it makes reference numerous times to Left Hand Drive parts.

This is a genuine GMH counter parts book not a aftermarket print, so I can only take that its genuine. If there is or was a LHD Torana version, I have never seen one, thinking it must have been for export only if it exists. Can someone shed some light on this for me, if it is correct a pic would be fantastic to check out,

cheers AL

Is that because of engine torque, sitting on the left adds a bit more weight so the Torry wont flip over from all that power from the big block                   202  :stirpot:

I'd love a LHD 2 door LC. Living over here in the States, it would make everything so much easier when I go to build one.

I have thought about a custom LHD front K frame and I think the dash cluster and glove box look to be transferable. I would use a Tilton type pedal box and aftermarket steering column.  Main problem I see would be the under dash. A LHD torana would make it easy. Or, just import a RHD one and build that up.

You may find one in Hawaii. GMH exported HK to Hawaii so may have sent the Hawaiian nuns some cars too!

Wonder how many of them were exported, would be good to find a LHD xu1 in dry Arizona, what a barn find that would be.

I don't think you'll find LHD XU1 or in mainland USA for any of them. Your best bet would be a rusty standard spec in a LHD Asian country, like the Phillipines.

We toyed with the idea of converting an LC/J speedway car to LHD back in the day (since most tracks ran counter-clockwise) but couldn't find a steering rack to suit.

The later Torana LH/X (and I assume UC?) were designed to be either RHD or LHD too, they even made provision for LHD washer jets in the cowl panel!

Yes, LH continued LHD but HQ didn't, which was an odd decision as the car was a LHD design when GMH were given the design to finish as a Holden.

When I was in the Philippines 20 years ago most of the Torana front ends had found their way under jeepney bodies. There would have to be some left in back yards though.

I noticed yesterday on my front cross member it is stamped with a recess for the steering rack shaft on both RH & LH side. So no exports of Toranas to the US?

Correct, the only difference between the RHD and LHD crossmembers is the steering rack mountings and the brake pipe brackets.

No LHD Torana to the USA.

You did get HK Holden but only in Hawaii State.
The closest otherwise were in the Caribbean, like Trinidad, possibly in South America (Guyana etc). Holden were actually assembled in Trinidad.

HR as well. There is an original LHD HR Special in Adelaide that came back from Hawaii. White over pale blue.

AFAIK the LHD LJ Torana used an LC Torana steering column, steering wheel and LC type lower instrument panel.

Whether it was the 6cyl column or the 4cyl column I do not know for sure but I suspect it was the equivalent of a 6cyl column.

So what were they called outside of Australia, were they still marketed as Toranas, or did they have another name?
