So what were they called outside of Australia, were they still marketed as Toranas, or did they have another name?

Seems they were called Torana everywhere except South Korea.

An old mate of mine used to build sports sedans.

He made them left hand drive.

There were a couple of benefits.

He used 9 inch diffs.

He offset the motor slightly to the right, this gave a bit more driver room which is a benefit when the extractors are beside your leg.

By modifying the 9 inch diff to suit the offset, he only needed the same size axles, so less spares.

To do the conversion he took the rack and turned it over and mounted it on the back of the crossmember instead of the front.

The Yanks would have ordered them from factory with Chev V8s, that would have saved us changing parts , they would have been factory options.

aThe Yanks thought Mustang, Chevy Nova and XK-XP Falcon sized sized cars were compacts so probably wouldn't have wanted what would be seen as a kid's pedal car! Even their sub-compacts look LH sized!

HR as well. There is an original LHD HR Special in Adelaide that came back from Hawaii. White over pale blue.

EH as well. It is believed this EH ute was originally exported to either Phillipines or Hawaii.

Yes, LH continued LHD but HQ didn't, which was an odd decision as the car was a LHD design when GMH were given the design to finish as a Holden.

HQ's were also made in LHD

I beg to differ !!

HQ-WB were NEVER built in LHD form.

They were only built LHD, from FB to HG & LC to LX. Not 100 % sure about UC. Then 2000 ish onwards Commodores etc.

I agree with Dr Terry. The HQ's design origins were a LHD vehicle, but the HQ we got here was never Engineered and tooled for LHD. Many of the surviving GMH design staff reckon it was a big mistake not making it LHD.
