^^Because it would be a totally different plant, sometimes a different State. The front subframe went on in the body plant. That photo is in the assembly plant.

When I first saw the smaller pic I thought maybe they lifted the front of the car over the cross member?
But you can see in the pic the cradle that lifts the whole car, not just the front.

It looks like the car is painted in this pic? The interior fitted as well? When did they fit the front and did the matching sprayed front panels travel along the line with the rest of the body?

That HD/HR wagon appears to have bucket seats and an X2 engine.

More than likely assembly jig holes.

Just like the drain holes in the floor pans.

When you are throwing together things as quickly as possible there would be aids to alignment.

Someone would place the item on the jig using the holes to get it right then the parts get put together and welded.
