Hi Shaune

Welcome to the forum

That VIN relates to a GTR completed in Brisbane on 12/8/71 and sold by dealer 495 during 10/71. The colour is Duchess Gold Metallic with black vinyl trim. The original engine number was CF18184 (173S)

I think the trim number should be 1829 40v

PM me with the Chassis Number and I will be able to say whether all 3 numbers fit together timewise. Also send my your email addy and I will send you a screenshot of the VIN disc entry.

Cheers

Bazza

Bazza you are a bloody champion. Thanks for the super quick reply.

I was kinda hoping to see XU1 there.. Posted Image

I'm pretty sure numbers match as I have all 3 tags. Third tag matches the Chassis Number. I don't have access to check the Chassis Number for a couple of days but I will PM you the details.

Although, How do I PM you?

Also I'm tossing up between a twin turbo conversion or back to original. Just wondering in your (and the groups) experience what is more desirable? And what would be the expected value of it restored to original?

Hi all, Just wanted to know if there is always a number stamped on the inner left guard of an LC, as the car i am looking at buying has no numbers stamped at all just the 2 large tags.
Any help would be great.

Hi Peter

They always leave the factory with the inner guard stamp. It may be that repairs have been done at some stage and the number not replaced. The other thing is that the stampinh may be hidden under layers of paint.

Thanks Bazza, The reason i asked that question is with what i have found out so far about the car is that no number was listed as a vin. number when the cars was last registered, this info comming from a Vehicle Registration and System Enquiry Sheet done in 26/8/1991.On a seperate peice of paper it has been written that the number LC 15690A was used as a vin. #(i cant find any numbers stamped in engine bay)
The car was registered with a 350sbc, t 350 and 9inch, currently not registered. I have an engineers ref # and i will be going to vic roads this week to see if i can re-register it again with the same running gear in it.

The ADR tag.
7/70 LC 15690A

The body ID tag.
Model LC 82911
Body # 1649-A
Trim 1803-48 V
Paint 567-12185

Thanks again,
Peter.

Hi i am new to your forum and i am wanting some verification on two cars that i own which have been in storage in NZ for the last two years (i have moved to Australia) i have owned one for 21 years and the other for 14 years, i believe one is an XU1 and the other has been made into a XU2 replica but i am unsure exactly what it is. I would like some information on both vehicles if possible because i have never had them verifyed before and would like to know if the numbers match.
First vehicle
serial # ALJ06668B
body # 06674
vin 82911JH236357
engine JP163392
(unfortunately it doesn't have ADR plate, but reading some of your forums on some NZ cars these were removed, is that correct?)

second vehicle
serial # BLJ20718A
body # 2819673-20A
The car also has a ADR plate but is different to serial number above #ALJ11048B
This car is missing vin tag so unsure what it was or is, this vehicle was imported into NZ by a previous owner from australia.
Any help would be greatfull.
Regards Carl

Hi sharkcat

That VIN appears as a GTR (sorry not an XU-1) completed on 10/7/70 and sold during Sept '70 by Melvile Motors - Melville WA.
Send me your email address and I will send you a copy of the VIN disc entry.

Hi everyone,
I have had this LC torana for about 10 years and would like any info I could get. Both front tags are missing making it harder to identify if it is a GTR, XU1 or an S model???
The remaining plate has the chassis number LC15027B, Which matches the inner guard stamp, 9/70, The colour is Burnside Bronze, 4spd 3;36 LSD diff, Headers, triple strommys, 17 gallon tank, black interior etc etc.
The motor is not original having a 202 under the bonnet. Any help would be great.

are there shark gills in the guards and are they pressed not welded?
are the guards original? eg spot welds
then take off the ADR plate and there should be a 4 digit number in black marker, (for bribane cars, GTR or XU1) this number is the last 4 digits of the PSN and some one with the records disk can check the details

Limo, I tried that on the GTR I brought over from NZ not so long ago... could not make out the number there was just a couple of marks that I guess would have been 4 numbers... and it was red, not black..

Both guards seem original by eye,(both with flutes)though the right hand front guard has spot welds along the top welded to the inner???
Dont know maybe a dodgy repair job?

I have taken the remaining plate off and there is writing on the back which is unreadable and in red?

Thanks for your replys.

if you can post a photo of the back side showing the texter markins maybe some one can compair it with the vin disc for you. i had adalaide lj and it had 4 very clear numbers scrathed into the back.

the numbers on the back of a brisbane adr tags match the body number on the paint tag,,, the numbers on the back of a adelaide adr tag are the last 4 number of the vin tag,, so you can work out the vin number for a adelaide car and check it with the vin disc, but the same dont work with a brissy car.

cheers gong
