the disc are non original and the dash is lj,,, the list could go on and on but i think that you are really just chasing a answer to the tag remakes,,, sorry i cant help you there,,, but i do have the rest of you numbers, you say the owner has had this car since 1998, i think he is telling you porky pies.

Looks like an LC dash, but shouldn't have kph on the speedo. And that's all I know.

Yes LC but the guages are in the wrong order and as mentioned, there should be no KPH scaleonly MPH. There should be silver paint trim around the guages.

That one comes up as a GTR completed on 22/1/71 and sold by dealer 066 during March '71. It was Rally Red with black vinyl interior. Bear in mind that we can only assume at this stage that the
tags are fitted to a GTR and not a GTR rebody or fake GTR. If you could post or PM me the Chassis Number from the ADR tag and the stamping on the inner passenger guard it would help in the verification.

Hi guys,
Surprised that no one has commented on why the speedo has kilometres on the face.
The reason is quite simple;
From 1974 when those of us over 50 had to convert to metric there was available a sticker that could be purchased to stick over the original which gave miles and Kilometres, this has 10 miles = 16 kilometres on the bottom as can be seen in the picture.
This means that the odometer is still in miles.
I cannot make out if it has the 120 mph speedo or the 100 mph one, of course it should be the former.
The mid 1973 speedos had white painted metric and imperial graduations as the normal production, though the odometer remained in Miles.
I think that the handbrake light was moved to the top location in late 72, I will double check this.
I do know that my early 1973 had the light at the top.

Hi,
Just found this site and is my first post about trying to find info on my LJ torana.
It is missing the compliance plate on firewall and right side radiator support but has the VIN tag on left radiator support panel and numbers read as follows :
8D11LCH261667J
Also the chassis number on the inner guard has been re stamped with new chassis number. They are hard to read but I think they read as follows:
M943257P
It has been in a shed for 10years and I am slowing rebuilding it now.
Any help on model and history with the chassis number would be very helpful please.

If it can be established that the VIN tag actually belongs with that car, then it is a GTR completed on 11/12/72 and sold by dealer 029 during Jan '73. There is no engine number recorded on the VIN disc.
It looks as though the car was stolen at some stage and has been given a police restamped Chassis Number,

Being a Brisbane built and assuming that you have the paint/body tag.The body number on that tag should be part of the vin number(last 6 numbers)this should tell you.

The VIN for that vehicle would be 8D11LCH281507J. The VIN records indicate a GTR completed on 21/6/73 and sold by dealer 618 during July '73. The car was Glacier White with black vinyl interior.
The original engine number was JL351075.
