thank you for the quick reply but could you tell me when did they built xu1 how i find out if this is one full restoration in progress
Hi
The first XU-1s were completed in July '70. Only the Adelaide and Brisbane plants built XU-1s - none were built in Sydney, Melbourne or Perth.

82911CH171991 appears on the VIN disc as an XU-1 completed in Brisbane on 23/9/70 it was sold by dealer 625 (Muirs of Ryde NSW). The engine number does not appear on the disc but 3100X22381 is consistent with that build period. The colour is Lina Mint and the trim is black vinyl. A Chassis Number is requred as an additional reference point vis authenticity. Please provide the Chassis Number from the ADR plate and the inner passenger guard stamping.
82311CH643735 is a Sydney built 2 door S model completed on 2/7/70. It is Kashmir White in colour with a red interior.

Cheers Bazza!
The Kashmir White 2 door S is the car that I just bought. In amongst all of the spare parts that came with the car was a piece of paper with the hand written details for an unknown Torana. As you have identified, these details relate to a Lina Mint XU-1. The Chassis Number was not recorded on the piece of paper.
It appears that all of the numbers for my car match up though. This is a relief.
Thanks again for your assistance.
Cheers,
Brett

i seen this car before on ebay, its one of the first lc gtrs built in the color of loneoranger, and the only one i have seen all numbers seem to match fine, it was built in adelaide on 23-8-71 sold in vic in the 10th month of 71 by dealer 363 witch by how records is BREWSTER AND MADDERN ALLEN ST KYABRAM the original engine number would be CF17820 and there for the car would have left the factory with a all aussie 4 speed [not a opel]and all robuc black intirior.
please note that its up to you to make sure all tags and numbers belong to the body of the car i have give you the info on.

Welcome to the forum.
That VIN indicates an XU-1 completed in Brisbane on 20/2/73 and sold by NSW dealer 785 later the same month. The original engine was number JP286003. The car is March 17th in colour (an emerald green named after St Patrick's Day) with plain black vinyl interor trim.
The numbers are consistent datewise.
Ask any questions that you may have - there are numerous people on the forum that will be willing to help answer them.

The VIN numbering system on all LJs (not just GTRs) was changed during Oct '72. Prior to this, GTR VINs used to commence with 82911 but this became 8D11L.
The VIN that you have quoted is a Brisbane built GTR completed on 9/6/73 and was sold by dealer 621 during 7/73. The original engine number was JL349865
The Body Number of this car should be 281120-B as the Body Number began to be derived from the PSN part of the VIN during May '73.

I have owned, for the last 18 or so years, what I think is a genuine 1971 GTR Baroda Silver (the car is painted silver) LC Torana which my parents have had the misfortune of having to store in their garage for all this time. When I initially purchased the vehile, I decided that it required a couple of small modifications before getting back onto the road, like ripping the original motor out (which I sold at the time for $500) and dropping in a warm 202, 350 holley carb, extractors, celica 5 speed box conversion and a few modifications to the front seats with the addition of 2 toyota celica seats (well I think they are toyota seats), all of which I had ripped out of another LJ Torana I initially purchased in an unregistered state that was so full of rust that it was not worth getting back on the road.
Anyway, after pulling the car to pieces I got side tracked with life and left it to collect dust at the parents place, never again to ever touch the tarmac. However, over the last 6 months or so I have been spending as much time (and money) possible trying to get the thing back to its original state and back on the road without the thought that it might not be an original GTR even thought the Body Identification Plate shows LC82911 as the model number. So I have finally 'bit the bullet' and have joined this forum to satisfy my curiosity in the hope I may have the genuine atricle.
As I am new to this forum I am not really sure (and apologise if I get it wrong or have posted the details in the wrong spot ) where to or what format is required to list details in the hope that someone may be able to help/confirm the codes, but here are the details anyway:
Body Identification Tag :
Model : LC82911
Body No:3559-A
Trim : 1827-40V
Paint : 567-13122
VIN : 82911CL17845
I have my doubts as to whether the car is genuine as the main tag body number which is also stamped on the inside left guard (LC31137A) does not match the Body Identification tag number 3559-A, but as I know nothing about the numbers or what they mean, I thought I would find out anyway.
Well, thank you to whomever maight be able to help me with the numbers and I look forward to further postings, discussions other helpful stuff.
Cheers

Welcome to the forum.
As Gong mentioned - you are missing a digit from the VIN. I will stick my head out and say that it is a 9 between the 8 and the 4 making it 82911L178945.
The Body Number on the Body Identification Tag does not have to match any other number it is the Chassis Number on the ADR tag and the stamping on the inner guard that must match. This being the case (and I will confirm when you provide the full VIN), I believe the car is a GTR completed in Adelaide on 25/6/71 and used internally by GMH Melbourne. There is no engine number listed.
If there is any chance of tracking down the original engine it will be well worth it - it would add significantly to the value of the car.
Get back to us.
Cheers

Just wanted to thank you for getting back to me so soon and sorry for the missing number as it was pretty late last night when I posted those numbers, but you are exactly correct as I have checked the VIN Number and it is 82911CL178945. The body number stamped on the inner guard is LC31137A and the tag under the wiper motor has the same LC31137A stamped with 6/71 preceeding that.
Thanks also to Gong for spotting the missing digit.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if this date and year model car have the 161s or the 173s and did they still run an opel 4 speed or the M20 gearbox? I have heard that the 161s motors are like hens teeth, and I probably can forget the 173s option as they seem to be even rarer.
Cheers,
Scott
