You need an expert from a Torana car club or similar to view the vehicle. As I said, I don't think there is anything wrong with the numbers but that doesn't mean that the tags haven't been fitted to an S model to make it appear to be a GTR - only an on-site inspection by an expert can determine the truth.
Internal GMH use usually means publicity, staff vehicles, etc.

Usual story, Car (LJ coupe) has had bolt on tags removed at some stage and have long disappeared into the ether.
Is there any way to determine when it was built by the body/chassis number stamped on inner guard of the engine bay? Does this number give any further info through cross linking with other data?
I have perused the various sources including the limitless reach of DR Google but with no luck.
Any ideas? The stamped number is BLJ 21400A.
Thanks in advance,
Rexy
Rexy,
get you local transport/RTA/etc office to search the chassis # as this will be recorded if it has been registered.
They may be able to tell you the other numbers or if someone else is using your plates.

That VIN appears as a GTR completed in Brisbane on 19/4/72 and sold through dealer 048 (NSW Government) during 5/72. The original engine number was JL137873. As you may already know it is Baroda Silver Mk2 with Antique Brown trim.
PM me with your email address if you would like a screenshot of the VIN disc entry.

That VIN comes up as a GTR completed in Adelaide on 4/12/70 sold by dealer 837 (there seems to be a type on the disk - says sold during 2/70. This could be 12/70 or 2/71),. There is no engine number listed. The colour is Mediterranean Blue Met with Sandalwood vinyl trim.

Hey , no worries, do you own already the LC with CK engine?
Regards Simon
Yes, have had the LC for about ten years. It's got a different engine now, the CK engine was on the original re-registration papers back in 1992. I'm trying to find out the car's VIN or plate number before it was deregistered so I can do a search of the master list and get a better understanding of it's history. Difficult though!

Ah, good, hope you can find some details. Have you posted any pics of your car? Be keen to see it. Does it have an ADR tag behind the booster? I think some export cars did, but not all.

Will post some pics tomorrow for sure, car's in the garage at the moment, will be firing up the engine in next day or two after nearly 8 years off the road. Fire extinguisher at the ready!
Holes are there for the ADR tag, but unfortunately not present anymore. Only thing I can try and go on is the chassis number in previous NZ registration details. Bit of a long shot but hey, i'm not too concerned, i'm never going to sell, just curious more than anything..
Talk soon mate

Not much can be gained from the Chassis Number except that the car would have been completed in early Nov 71. This being the case, your car was one of the last LC XU-1s built. I don't think finding out the original registration details would help because it would not reveal the VIN. I believe that the Chassis Number and Engine Number was the method of establishing a cars identity for motor registration purposes in those days - and you already have those.
