Hi Bazza , I have a JL434455 last number may be 6 or 8 engine that came out of a 5/73 GTR can you tell me if it is a GTR motor ? It is under other stuff and up against a wall , so I can't get at the date code

I know my name isn't Bazza, LOL, but I had a look at the vin listing anyway. Couldn't find your engine number (or alternative ending variations) listed for either Brisbane or Adelaide however recorded engine numbers around yours would suggest it could have come from an 11/73 built car.
Bazza may have a better chance of finding it but I can't.

Hi Guys,

Bloody great thread!!!

I have an old Torana in the shed,what I believe is a 1974 LJ GTR. I was hoping this team could provide me with as much detail as possible regarding any details including point of sale,dates,and hopefully an engine number?

Now I may need to confirm these details as they have been written down on an old piece of paper a few years ago. The car is in storage and I should really get of my ass and give it a run. I have several motors in the shed also but the one that came in a crate detailed as the original motor is JL442114 (does this match build dates).

Particulars below:

VIN# = 8D11LDH299910J

155936 ?(not sure what this number is but its written on the sheet)

MODEL = LJ82911

BODY = 299910B

TRIM = 186850X

PAINT = 56715335

Any data would be appreciated.

Kind regards from across the ditch, and yes the car is in NZ.

Your LJ GTR 8D11LDH299910J is a Brisbane built car completed on the 26/11/1973 and sold by Dealer 236 in December 1973.
The Betsbac number 76203CO tells us it left the factory with a 3.08:1 ratio diff.
There is no engine number recorded however another GTR H299918 also built on 26/11/1973 was fitted with engine number JL442119 so your 202 with the engine number L442114 would fit as being the original engine.

Obtaining full registers would be a fantastic tool to view on a regular basis for particular references.

Yes there is a thread on dealer codes (incomplete though) in the General Questions section of this forum.
Dealer Code 236 B is GMH internal B = Acacia Ridge.

Awesome Dave!!

Ive just been in touch with the previous owner and hes informed me he has found the original ownership papers.....hes just got to dig them back out again. These should detail first registry date in NZ and to whom hopefully (probably wont have the GMH dealer on it though.

Do you know if the GMH in Acacia Ridge had a specific ownership name other than GMH? Be interesting to find out its original registration plate, purchaser etc

Hi Dave, How accurate is the data from the service warranty files?
I have obtained the original ownership papers from the guy I purchased the car from, they detail the GTR was sold NEW NZ in Christchurch with 30 kms on speedo. The first NZ owner was recorded to be on 14 FEB 1974 this is stamped on one page and typed on another. The engine number is correct as you expected and the chassis stamped details are correct also. So maybe this unit wasnt purchased internally by a GMH employee? I see the service records also detail its first point of sale was at 236 dealer as you have identified earlier, would it be expected to see a 000X code for an exported car?

Another query did the GM dealers in NZ have dealer numbers aswell? I only ask as WESTPOINT MOTORS LMVD in Christchurch NZ originally sold the car here and has a faded number next to it which looks to be 664?

Please check that VIN, the H125555 part is too low. In addition, can you also provide the Chassis Number which is of critical importance also?

No problem with the numbers on that one. All tag details accord datewise.

The car was completed in Melbourne on 30/11/69 and sold by Winter and Taylor of Geelong during Jan '70

What is the colour and trim?

Hi All,

I have a query from a mate with an LC GTR that his young bloke has picked up..... Just wondering if you can shed any light on authenticity etc, maybe even some particulars to confirm.

Details provided are:
LC12828B
Chassis: 8039B
Eng: 2600S19702
VIN: 82911CH164941
Trim: 41V
This is from the original manual

Also, running a 186 with Double barrel Holly Carb, unsure of diff ratio's and also got an auto on the floor (I didn't even know they came out with that??)

Any info provided would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum (once again?)

That VIN relates to a GTR completed in Brisbane on 17/7/70 and sold by Savell Bros Pty Ltd of Forest Rd, Hurstville NSW during Aug '70.

Obviously the engine and carburation are not standard. The car would have originally been fitted with an Opel 4 speed transmission and a 3.08:1 ratio conventional differential.

BTW what is the body colour according to the Body tag or paperwork?

The trim is Gold vinyl.
