As far as i know adelaide tags had the last 4 digits of the vin scratched into the back of the tag, brisbane in texta. As for having 8/72 xu1, anyone coulda done that, gotma pic? And lj 2 door is what all 2 doors had, xu1 or not..
Brisbane LC's have the body number from the trim tag (not the VIN) written in wax pen on the back of the ADR tag. Adelaide cars as you say.

There are no issues with those numbers - they all accord with the build period of around the 3rd week of Nov '72 (inc the engine number).
Cheers

Can any one shed some light on this car? It was meant to be a GTR???? Just out of curiosity.

Its on Page 597
Completion Date 20/12/1972.
Model 82311
Eng No. D269422
Betsbac 44203C0
Sales Date 12/72
Dealer 668 Zone 4.
Note: The compliance plate should read Chassis number BLJ not BLC
You also say the Vin code is 8B11BCL. The B in front of the C tells us the engine is a 138ci however the Vin disc listing looks like a D prefix (D =173 ci) on the engine number not a B. This may have been a typo on the vin listing or it's just hard to make out.
AFAIK the Betsbac tells us it has a 138 engine.

Im opening the VIN dics with Adobe reader.. I cant open in Office..
The numbers combo's are heaps different than the early LC's... Does the A after the chassis number mean its an Adelaide built car?
What does the B stand for? IE: BLJ?
I found the bextpac # 44203c..it doesnt match what you say.. So I assume Im wrong in my own search?
Dave I have writen down Exactly what is on the plates.. Are you sure its meant to be BLJ not BLC? confused... The plates dont look like they have been tampered/removed... Just want to know as I want to restore and rego..

Betsbac 44203C0 reads as:
4 = 2dr S
4 = 138 ci 6 cyl
2 = M20 4spd (Aussie)
0 = No Power Steering
3 = Disc Front Brakes
C = 3.08 Ratio Diff
0 = No A/c
The Chassis No. code BLJ is B = Model Year 1973. LJ = Model code LJ Torana. The A at the end of the chassis number means Adelaide.
Even though the B indicates the cars model year is 1973, it is for all intents and purposes a 1972 model.
Note: ALJ######A = Model year1972 LJ Torana. It has been speculated the A & B prefixes are associated with the ADR's but I don't know if this factually correct.
The model year changed in September each year (I think it was) however this is strictly a GMH internal operations thing and has no bearing or consequence on the fact the car was built in 1972 and is a 1972 LJ Torana.
The Chassis number on the Compliance plate should exactly match the number stamped into the left inner wheelhouse panel.
If the only difference is the letter C instead of J and the compliance tag says 'LJ 2 dr sedan' then I would say it is probably a factory stamping error and shouldn't cause any rego problems.
Hope this has been helpful to you.
Cheers
Dave.
P.S: I'm sure Bazza will chip in if I have missed something or gotten something wrong.
Almost forgot: The file you want to look at on the Vin disc is coded (10). Mine is read in Adobe.
