Hi Glenn

The VIN relates to a GTR completed in Brisbane on 9/2/72 and sold by Beazley and Bruce in Canberra during the same month. The original engine number was JL112407. The VIN, Chassis Number and Body Number all accord datewise.

As you suggest, the colour is Patina Gold Metallic and 40X denotes plain black vinyl trim.

BTW, the Chassis Number ends with a "B" not an "H".

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Bazza

Hi Bazza,

Thanks for the info. You are right it is a" B" not a "H" on plate and chassis. I have no idea where i got the H from.

Its awsome to have this info and i greatly appreciate you going out your way to help me bud.

Unfortunatly the car doesnt have the JL code engine in it, it has a HL code number which i take it would just be a run of the mill 202.

Cheers Glenn.

Hi Glenn

FYI the JL, like the HL, is a standard 202 also.

Hi Bazza, it looks like he is trying to use ebay protection service to sell a gtr for 5400 - awesome pics - looks more like 20000 worth. I have contacted ebay and they advise they offer NO vehicle protection services for vehicles.

First the vehicle was for sale on Gumtree in Darwin, then Hervey Bay QLD, now Gold Coast QLD. Now he advises he is selling from Darwin.

Watch this space, unless I am realllllllly lucky I think I have found a fraudster so I would like to know if this vehicle has been identifed at all (reg, chassis, vin etc).

Cheers,

Neil

It sure must be a hot one foxie, she goes from state to state without a mark on it. However I think the speedo must be broken. Still only has 600kms on the clock.

Do we know who the real owner is?

I'm having a bit of fun talking with him atm:
--------------------------------
Dr. Richard Croft: (an aside - I would have thought somene with a doctorate would have known saluation for doctorate had no dot after Dr)

Hello,

Thank you for being interested in buying my car. The price is $5,400.
The price does include shipping and insurance to your address.

Let me know if you are interested.

Sent from my iPad
---------------------------------
ME:

Hi, i would like to have a look at it first. Where are you located?
Cheers,
-----------------------------------
Dr. Richard Croft:

The car is in Darwin, NT.

I want to finish this deal through eBay.

It will be shipped from Darwin and I'll pay the delivery costs. The delivery process to your location will take 5-6 days, then you'll have 3 days for inspection. I will start the shipping in the same day with the payment confirmation. eBay will keep the paid amount until you'll receive, inspect and agree with the car. This is their policy regarding this type of transactions.

Tell me if you are still interested and I will contact eBay regarding our transaction. After that, they will send you the information needed to begin the process.

Thanks
------------------------------------
ME:

Hi Richard, do you know the registration and chassis numbers? and does
it still have its gtr tags? Do you have any other pics, especially of
the tags? It looks really nice but I cannot find it on ebay, and it
is also on Gumtree for sale at Robina QLD 4226.
-----------------------------------------
Dr. Richard Croft:

Engine Number: HL34543
VIN (Vehicle Identification Number): LC17577A/82911CL156470

I've attached the pictures to this email. The car is not listed on eBay. I just want to close the deal through their purchase protection service.

Let me explain the process to you..

It will be shipped from Darwin and I'll pay the shipping to your location.

You will need to send the funds to eBay to provide the transaction protection for both parties. I will start the shipping process the same day I have received notification of the escrow payment. They will hold your payment in escrow and only release it to me once you have received, inspected, and signed the transaction approval provided by eBay for the car. You will be allowed 3 inspection days at your address. If the car is not as I described, and you decline the transaction, eBay will refund you 100% of the escrow payment and I would be responsible for the return shipping.

Tell me your decision and I will contact eBay regarding our transaction. After that, they will send you the information needed to begin the process.

Thanks
---------------------------------------------
ME: (an aside, ebay offers no buyer protection for vehicle purchases, also the pics are of an xu1, helped me heaps with understanding how to mount my chokes ;-) )

Hi Richard,

I would like to go one better, can I pick this up in person and pay
cash for the transaction? The best possible protection for both of us
is the cash to you and the keys to me.

Your thoughts?
------------------------------------------------
Dr. Richard Croft:

I'm not around right now to get this thing done in person, I am actually out of the country for a bit. That's the main reason for using eBay, plus it will be easier on both of us to get this deal done.

Thanks
--------------------------------------------------
ME:(still waiting for a response)

Im sorry, I thought the sale was urgent. Should I wait until you are
back in the country? Instead of the transport company picking up the
car I reckon it should be me. I can't wait.
------------------------------------------------

Any recommendations on future comments (keep it clean, I know enough coarse language already ;-) )?

The most disturbing thing in the scammers conversation, is they dont type or compose sentences like the regular poorly constructed crap i see... Either a well educated and travelled african or malaysian scammer, or some aussies are trying to get in on the action. Bit of a worry.

Hey Neil, probably best to chuck this in grneral discussion or something, so not to clog up this thread too much..

Hi Zac

That VIN appears as a GTR completed in Brisbane on 23/11/70 and sold by C V Holland Pty Ltd - Rockdale NSW during Jan '71. There is no engine number recorded, but the original engine would have been in the 2600S27xxx range. The colour is Florentine Gold Met and the trim Sandalwood.

The tag numbers are all consistent with the build date.

Hi datpsi

Little can be learned without the VIN but the Chassis Number is right on the cusp of the change from the prefix "LC" to "ALC". I have examples of 6/71 cars completed early in 7/71 with the prefix "ALC".

The biggest concern is the Body Number 20307-B because it dates to mid-May 1971 which is way too early for a late 6/71 or early 7/71.

I could be that the car may be a late '71 GTR but it has been fitted with a Body Tag from another car. The VIN and Body ID tags probably went missing at the same time.

Did the letter "M" appear on the Body tag after the 82911? A photo of the Body and ADR tags may reveal more. In the meantime I would treat the car with caution.

Cheers

Bazza
