Hey guys, wondering if anyone knows how to check if this is an XU-1 or not

Info i have on car is

04/73 BLJ21990A

Model LJ82911

Body 1694-A

Trim 856-58 (could be 68)

Paint 568-15347

Currently bidding on it but want to know exactly what it is before end of auction

That LJ Torana has been discussed in another thread. Another Forum member who knows the car has confirmed it is a GTR, not an XU1.

Can any give me some history on the car I believe it was sold new in NZ

Hello,it has been a while since I have been on here ,I have been waiting for the correct coloured car to come my way the problem I have is the car is very rusty through the inner rail and everywhere else ,and it is missing the small tag ,is there anyway of retrieving these numbers from the other 2 compliance plates to verify that it is the car .The car is definitely seems it ,it is and carrying its original paint .I have removed the tag which has numbers scribbled on the underside that match the other tag etc .any help appreciated. 002 Black tag front.JPG 96.68K 9 downloads

Hi

Being a Brisbane built car, there is no way to establish the VIN from the other tags. All that can be said is that the ADR and Body Identification tags are consistent with with each other datewise (mid Sept '72" and that the tags were originally fitted to a Zodiac Blue GTR or XU-1 with flax interior with black and white houndstooth inserts.

Does the engine number help identify the car , why is there not a registry (build list) for Brisbane cars.

What is meant, is only the body number is written on the back of the ADR tag for Brisbane cars. Adelaide cars have the VIN scratched on the back of the ADR tag. Yes, the engine number may help, so long as it is the original one.

It is a GTR so the engine number prefix should be JLxxxxxx

im off to view a LC for sale tomorrow , in Perth checked the vin disk 10/69 , will report back ,

ADR is 4 5a 7 20,

in parts but complete , any thing special i should look for ?

Warren, a 10/69 model shouldn't have a compliance plate. Judging by that chassis number the compliance plate would be early 1970. Perhaps around May 1970?

Hi

That VIN appears on the VIN disc as a GTR completed in Brisbane on 23/2/71 and was sold by Bathurst Motors P/L - Bathurst NSW during March 71. There is no engine number recorded but it would be in the 2600S29xxx range.

The body colour details aren't recorded on the VIN disc but we may be able to make some sense of the Body Id tag if you post it here or PM a picture to me. Failing that, if the body hasn't been bead blasted, some remnants of the original colour may still be seen in places like; inside the kick panels, under the rear shelf cover etc etc.

if you are talking about the lunamint car that is on ebay,,, just remember that the numbers only tell you what the car should be,,, i stress this point,,, if you dont know your bodys then maybe take a mate or someone that does.

Looking at the Lunamint car you mention. Second time I've seen it advertised on ebay so questioning why it didn't move the first time.
Thanks for the help verifying the numbers. Well, that's the first part out of the way, now to fly up and check it out.
Always cautious when looking at XU1's. Seen a lot of dodgy things over the years and talking big dollars these days.
I'll take the advise on board.
