Hi Chris
Please check the Chassis Number carefully. Does this exact Chassis Number appear in 2 places? On the ADR tag AND stamped into the inner guard?
Cheers

Hi Team Torana, Can someone help me with a verification on an LJ XU1, sold originally into NZ I think? I've downloaded the TIFF file right at the start of this thread with production detail. But I am just not knowledgeable enough to work through the information.
The VIN is 8D11PCL222416J. Engine is JP253110. Body 1253-A. Model is LJ82911 (so it is sounding good). Bloke selling it is really nice and genuine. Just checking as these cars are a lot of coin to outlay.
Appreciate any help or any tips on how I can check the disks myself (other than trying to read that TIFF file) so I don't bother anyone.
cheers

I'll appreciate any help or tips anyone can afford me. Conversely if there is some sort of service where an expert can check the discs before I inspect the vehicle (with an expert) I am happy to pay the going rate.
Cheers Simon

Hi Paul
The VIN appears as a GTR completed in Adelaide on 27/9/69 and sold by the Smith Motor Co Pty Ltd, 171 Commercial Rd Port Adelaide during Nov 69. There is no engine number recorded (very few were in the early production months) but the original engine would have been in the 2600S3xxxx or 2600S4xxxx range. The original colour was Spanish Red and the interior trim black vinyl. This car was one of the first 20 LC GTRs built at the Adelaide plant.
Cheers

Thanks Bazza
I was told the car was originally orange and the interior also.
Apparently 1 of only 2 ever ordered and completed in Adelaide.
They were apparently ordered by Bob Jane to go with his 2 orange Monaros.
In my original post I forgot to put in the X with the code (1189-40X) I don't know if this makes any difference.
I did see a post where someone was showing both of their tags and the Trim tag read (1199-40V)
and their interior was black vinyl. Getting confused !!
Thanks again
Paul.

Thanks to you to Bazza

Thanks Bazza,
Now I really am confused.
I went out and bought "Holden`s Little Black Book".
It was exceptionally good at helping me read the I.D plate.
Exactly as you say Bazza it reads as Spanish Red with Black Vinyl.
Number 31? built in Adelaide.
BUT!! This is where it gets confusing.
We are in the process of rubbing her back and all we are coming up with under the White she has been painted over with is,
Indy Orange!!! No Red what so ever.
The seats weren`t original, when we got her it had racing seats...since replaced. But the dash and everything else is.
We scratched away the black paint on part of the glove box and it was Orange ??
The plate still have the original rivets in them so they have never been removed.
I couldn`t find anywhere on the car that told me of a build date ??
Is there some software or a book or paper trail that you know of or could help me get a definite date.
I know that compliance plates weren`t fitted until 1/70 so as you say this one being a 1969 model would not have had one.
Is there any time where a car has been wrongly tagged or had a colour change done while in production that any one knows of ??
Or am I just clutching at straws?
Any help or advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Paul.

Hi Paul
It is difficult to say what is going on with this car. If it was a special order for Bob Jane, I would have thought that he would have ordered it from the Melbourne plant as they were assembling GTRs from day 1 of LC production.
The build date (actually the completion date) is established by looking up the VIN on the VIN disc which, as I mentioned above, was 27/9/69. I cannot explain how the orange body colour is underneath the existing white but if it was painted orange at the factory I would presume that it would be Sebring Orange. Indy Orange wasn't available until mid 1970. This is also when the plain black vinyl trim 40V was introduced replacing the 40X. 40X and 40V differ slightly but are both plain black vinyl. Orange vinyl interior wasn't available until mid 1970.
Is it possible that the wrong Body ID plate was affixed? I guess so, they were early days so anything is possible although I have never seen an error such as that before.
The Body Number 31-A is consistent with the car being one of the first 20 GTRs - remember about half the Adelaide produced chassis/bodies were sent to Melbourne for final assembly. By way of example, Body Number 25-A was assembled in Melbourne.
As a matter of interest - is the glove box lid crinkle finished or plain?
Cheers
Bazza

Hi Paul, could the car have been acid bathed or sand blasted and rebuilt in the past 40 odd years? a lot of them were rebuilt like that, just a thought, Greg

I will check the glove box when I get home Bazz.
But now I am intrigued.
Why do you ask ???
I am by no means an expert on anything automotive but I am in the process of educating myself.
Please dumb down the Vin as much as possible. Looking up where?
Is there a place to get the information?
Every time I Google Vin number id or the like this blog site comes up ??
Thanks for all your patience.
