that would be it u would think as the other 3-GTR prototypes were 4/1972 Adelaide built cars, Mystery solved , well done spack.
AL

Al, I wouldn't be so quick to say the mystery is solved. If the Purple Pagewood GTR was a fourth V8 prototype then surely it would have been a 000M car that somehow found it's way to Pagewood.

If it is a 000S car then it may have had the V8 installed after delivery to Pagewood. It is odd though that a GTR would be supplied from Adelaide when Brisbane could have easily filled the order.

My guess, they used a Adelaide Car, and the April time frame for the GTR u found is right to get the XW7 parts for the conversion, Mr Drakovic must of had enough pull to get it done, GMH Port Melbourne only had 3-GTR's (000 M) Cars, so u would think it was done at the Pagewood Plant the conversion, hope this car shows up one day with its history, so we all know.

Hi John

Welcome to the forum.

That VIN appears on the VIN disc as a GTR completed in Brisbane on 10/5/73. It is Tangerine in colour and has plain black vinyl trim. The original engine number was JL294232. It was sold during May '73 by dealer 476 (Sturgess-Hall Pty Ltd, Parramatta Rd, Auburn NSW).

The number that you have provided are consistent with each other datewise.

Cheers

000S at that timeframe could also easily be employee purchased or internal company cars. If the person wanted a Torana it obviously had to come from Acacia Ridge or Elizabeth. So whilst yes there is no dealer code and they were ordered through the Sydney zone office it doesn't really mean the cars are special, just they have no dealer code. One could be special (hope it is another mystery for you to solve Al!) but more likely than not they are internal cars (company or employee purchase). There will be plenty of other 000S cars in records of this time that aren't GTR's, examples: H239196, H239225, H239314 and H248964. These were all on the same pages or next page from the examples given so not hard to find.

^^

Moreover - I would imagine that such a car would have gone to an internal 200 series number such as GMH Engineering NSW.

Just a thought

I'm pretty sure GMH got better at using 200 series numbers later, they come up a lot in the mid-later 70's. Rarely see them in HQ era compared to HJ-HZ.

Hi Alf

This one appears on the VIN disc as an XU-1 completed in Brisbane on 21/1/72 and sold by dealer 129 (Motors Ltd, Hobart Tas) during Feb '72. It is Chateau Mauve Met with plain black vinyl trim. The original engine number would be JP105313.

All tags are consistent datewise.

Cheers

Rare to see Bazza

Nearly every LJ's I have ever come across in Tassy, were Adelaide Built, so different to see a Brisbane one from Dealer Number 129

Al, there were 3 Brissy XU1's, all completed on 21/01/1972 that went to Dealer 129.

Hi Greg,

Have you taken the back seat out, removed the door trims ?

If your car hasn't been stripped to bare metal then there maybe some signs of the original colour in these locations.

Cheers

being a 10-73 built car i would bet my bottom dollar it is a cyan blue car,,, the only other color that comes close is brookland blue, but this color would be very hard to find on a late 73 car...

PS rub back your dash you may find the original color under the black like i have with most cars.

cheers gong

G'day guys, I have been trying to find some info on a mates LC 4 door and it looks like this is the right place - tag details are ......

LC82911

Body number 1602-A

Trim 1192-40V

Paint 568-11401

He also gave me these numbers - LC15478A , gather thats a body number stamped somewhere ? date stamped 7/70 and also 52911CL156472

Would really appreciate some info on these numbers, the car has been fitted with a V8 which has been removed, he plans to put it back to stock and we are looking for a motor that will be somewhere near the original numberwise.

 Thanks in advance !!!

If what you have posted is correct then your mate has LC GTR tags on a 4 dr.

The vin for a 4 dr LC should start with 82369 (Torana S) or 82569 Torana SL.

11 = 2dr

69 = 4dr

Hi Oliver

Welcome to the forums.

I don't how your post got missed. but here is the only info that can be ascertained from the info that you have provided.

The car appears to be a Brisbane built GTR from March or early April 1973, the original colour is Gunmetal Metallic with Chestnut vinyl trim.

Do you have a VIN or any other tag details?

Cheers

Bazza
