The car is 5,000 nzd. Iv put down a grand as timing was shit.. Will bring it home before end of next month.

Mate had a look. Chassis number cut out! So that's that dream over for now.

just keep looking.i remember that car from 6 months ago,was looking at buying the hotwires.heaps of stuff still sitting on this side of the tasman.

Theres another on Trademe for 8 but it has dodge tags too- my mate checked it out a few months back and it was tagless.. Now its got two pictured sitting on a table

Hi all , went to look a Torana today just trying to find out some more info , my vin disc does not seem to work, so could someone please give me some more info on these numbers
Tag near wiper motor 2/71 25511B
PSN tag 82911CJ184340 ( it was hard to read because the (J) just looked like a number 1 ) this tag had been removed at some time .
Model no Lc 82911M
Body no 15685B
Trim 1815 40V
Paint 568 12573 ( plumb dinger )
And the block next to the car reads
3100X30825
Head no 7438296

The J in the VIN is actually an "H".

 

H184340 appears on the VIN disc as an XU-1 completed in Brisbane on 12/2/71 and was sold by dealer 565 during March '71. The original engine number was 3011X30825.

 

The head is incorrect and appears to be from an LC GTR but other than that, the VIN, Chassis Number and Body Number all accord datewise. Does the Chassis Number stamped into the inner guard agree with the ADR plate?

Hi

 

This vehicle appears on the VIN disc as being a Brisbane built GTR completed on 18/10/73 and sold during Nov '73 by Norman G Booth - Dee Why NSW. The original engine number was JL423817. From the info that you have provided from the Body Identification tag - the colour is Orchid Metallic and the trim plain black vinyl. The VIN, Chassis Number and Body Number are all date consistent.

 

LJ GTRs did not have the triangular bracket seen on LC GTRs. As the LJ GTR was fitted with a standard 202 (3300) engine it was fitted with a standard single barrel carburettor, hence the LC GTR style bracket was not needed.

I have been trawling all of the archives at the Victorian automobile chamber of commerce for any further info for this site.

they have every single workshop manual for all manufacturers from 1917 to present. parts manuals, bulletins and most other documents that were issued from manufacturers directly to the vacc.

 

I also have all service bulletins for lc lj torana if u need them..

I've found what looks to be a very original LJ GTR which needs a restoration but if it's real would be great has it looks untouched, has the original wheels, steering wheel door cards with GTR on them etc.

gday going through some coupes I have and think this shell may have actually been a gtr. Sadly no tags. Can any of you extreemly handy and clever experts varify this chassis number.

Sorry but nothing can be established from the Chassis Number alone, except to say that the vehicle was completed around the 2nd week of September 1973.

I am just about to put a deposit on an LC GTR can somebody do an urgent VIN check for me please: 82911ch171557.

 

I know its a GTR but am particularly interested to get an engine number.

 

(I tried ringing Peter and Melissa but both phones are disconnected)

Always check that all 3 tags are date consistent and the Chassis Number that appears in 2 places agree with each other. There are a lot of genuine cars with dodgy thats that have been used to replace missing/stolen ones.

Hi all,

 

I would like some help checking my LJ Torana, details as follows:

Little tag near firewall 8D11LDH300889
Big tag near firewall 12/73 BLJ 56548B
Same number BLJ 56548B stamped next to chassis rail on passenger side
Big tag on radiator support:
Model LJ82911
Body No 300889B
Trim 1865 50X
Paint 567 15332
 
The car is metallic blue, is painted blue behind rear seat, inside doors etc so it looks to be original colour

Hello everyone, I bought a GTR some 25 years ago. Sadly the original motor was already long gone so it had a QL prefix block as it's new power plant. I'm just going to give you all the good details & see what we think.

From the large tag on top of the firewall ADR tag 

 

LJ TORANA SEDAN 2 DOOR. 4/72   ALJ03641B          this no.  03641B is also stamped on top inner guard passenger side.

 

The BODY ID tag         MODEL.   LJ82911M       

                                     BODY No.   03716B

                                     TRIM       1843   40X

                                     PAINT      567  13885

                                     TOP        

 

 The VIN tag          82911 J L2 29798    all tags where fix with what looked like the original hollow retainers           

 

 At the time knowing the engine was a QL.  & not required I shopped around & found this complete block

 with the lot engine No. JP320365  from what I have seen of this car it has had 4 paint jobs & almost

 as many engines & one reasonable hit in the front left all of which make me wonder about the vin tag.

 I'm sure to have more Questions but they can wait. Cheers to all the screaming 6 cylinder fans.
