Hi Troy

That's much better thanks.

The car appears on the VIN disc as a GTR completed in Brisbane on 9/6/72 and sold later the same month by dealer 865. The original engine number was JL162010.

The tag details all accord datewise.

Dealer 865 was Boyded Pty Ltd of 236 -242 South Terrace, Bankstown is believed to be one of a number of dealerships that distributed NSW Police vehicles. I have not had conclusive proof of this so someone may chime in with more info.

Cheers

Bazza

Certainly is Bazza. 9/06/72 is a much better match date wise for the chassis and body number.

Is there anyone in or around Toowoomba that owns a genuine XU1 or very cluey with them and wouldn't mind helping somebody identify either a GTR or an XU1?

Bazza,
Are you making a tally of how many gtr's and xu1s are still in existence based on what comes up in this thread.
Obviously there's plenty of owners of them who haven't put them through the thread but it is a start atleast.

Hi jd lj

I 'harvest' the numbers from a lot of other souces also eg. eBay, Gumtree, AMC, Trademe, personal emails, car shows etc. The one thing that I don't do is record the names of owners or locations as this is not important to my research . In the 7 or 8 years that I have been recording numbers, I have only managed to record around 915 GTRs and XU-1s - this is only a fraction of the approx 13850 GTRs and XU-1s produced. Who knows how many still survive in various degrees of assembly or completeness. New finds are surfacing on a regular basis. Personally I wouldn't be surprised if there were as many as 2000, but it anyone's guess how many of those could be classified as 'original'.

Cheers

Great work Baz, do you have any idea how many XU1's by themselves were made and GTR''s? or are the 13850 a mix of all 4, ie: Lc GTR, Lc XU1, Lj GTR, Lj XU1, just out of curiosity, thanks Greg, P.S great hobby you have.

Hi greg2240

By my count of the VIN disc (checked 3 times).

LC GTRs = 6610

LC XU1s = 1400

LJ GTRs = 3640

LJ XU1s = 2194

Total         13844

Cheers

Hi Bazza - not sure if the above info is quite correct

Every car show I have been to - approximately 100 % of people say they used to own an XU-1

This means that based on the 1973 population figures - there were approximately 13,303,664 XU-1's made........

Too true - probably relatives of the same people that said that they sat on the speaker towers at the Woodstock music festival in 1969.

Hey Paul

It's been a long time since you have been here.I know a little bit about LJs

I could have a look and get numbers and get Bazza to check if they want .

Cheers, John.

Hi Michael

LC21030B is the Chassis Number. The number 15310 on the back of the ADR tag is the Body Number. Neither of these 2 numbers tells us anything about the identity of a Brisbane build car. The number scribed onto the back of an Adelaide built car is the last 4 digits of the VIN but this only works with Adelaide cars.

There is a slim chance that you can identify your car if you know the original engine number or the selling dealer. If neither of these are known, I'm afraid the identity will remain unknown.

Cheers

Bazza

Hi Michael

Try contacting the motor registration authorities in your state (or the state that the car came from) to establish whether they can provide any information from the Chassis Number or previous rego plate. The Chassis Number was used for registration purposes prior to the modern VIN. If they no longer hold the records then that really is the end of it.

The most recognizable features of an LC GTR are the 2600S engine, the triangular throttle bracket spot welded onto the firewall (only appears on LC GTRs) and the single small bracket in the boot that retains the spare wheel. If you need pictures of these features PM me with you email address.

Cheers

G/day Michael, welcome to the Forum.

If you want to post up some pics of your LC then maybe best to start a build thread in the 'Members Projects & Plans' section.

Cheers

Dave.
