Hi

Yes 55X is uncommon - usually seen with Cyan Met. and Gunmetal Met. coloured cars.

Cheers

Hi guys,

I have previously owned 3 LJ sedans and am currently looking at buying an LC XU1. Unfortunately all 3 tags are missing so I am seeking your help in confirming the LC's authenticity, i.e. whether basic sedan, GTR or XU1.

The slotted guards look original, there is no panel work evident and still has original spot welds.

Here are the details I know:

Chassis no. LC15341A

Engine No. 3100x22060 (at least I think this is an XU1 block)

Head cast No. 7420109 Holden D144 2  (from previous threads I suspect this is an earlier 149 head, and not produced with the block)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Dermott23

Welcome to the forums.

Sorry about the delay in replying.

It is difficult trying to match an early LC (of any model) with the engine number owing to the lack of data on the VIN disc for that period. Engine number 3100X22060 does not appear on the disc and the earliest 3100x22xxx number doesn't appear until late August. The Chassis Number LC15341A dates from around the third week of July 1970 so it is difficult to see how that engine number 3100X22060 would be fitted to a car from that period. The earliest XU-1s had engine numbers in the 3100X19xxx range but the engines were issued fairly ad-hoc number wise.

Do you have the cast date of the engine or photos?

The more likely scenario is that the car may be a GTR that has been retrofitted with an XU-1 engine.

The head details are not those of an XU-1 or standard GTR.

PM me if you have any other info or require further explanation.

Cheers

Hi,

I am considering buying a LJ and I am trying to find out some more information. I have been advised that it could be a GTR but it is missing a couple of the tags. It does however, have the manufacture plate which states 03/73 BLJ 20790A

Any information is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jesse

geebus, 51 pages!!!!!

Can someone give me a quick rundown on the most obvious ways of spotting an LC GTR

I have the chance of buying a roller which has recently been painted, don't have any numbers yet, and am curious to know how I can see the differences

I will ask the seller to send me some pics of the tags so I can post up some information here. Apparently its been wet in Newy and he hasn't been able to do so as it needs to come out of the shed

Thanks

Brad

Hi Brad

The 2 most obvious things to look for are:

A triangular bracket bracket on the firewall which forms part of the throttle mechanism and,

Only 1 small spare wheel retaining bracket on the boot floor near the spare wheel well.

If these two identifiers are in place, you will be well on the way.

When you get the numbers, post them here (some folks won't do that) or PM me.

Cheers

Others have surfaced that missed the list so nothing new.

L194608 may have accidentally ended up in the HQ records due to an input error back in the day.

Hi Limo

To clarify another point - the "hole" probably wouldn't have included only LJ Toranas. L194608 may be the only Torana missing. The other PSNs could be HQs etc that appear on the correct list. The PSN numbering system was consecutive and included all factory production. The are "holes" on most pages of the Torana VIN disc - this is normal.

Cheers

Hi Bazza,

Theoretically all the PSN's missing from the Torana listings are HQ's and Bedfords, depending on the VAP in question.

Cheers

Dave
