Hi Balfizar

Somebody on the forum has also reported 495 as Commonwealth Motors, Phillip ACT. I don't know which is correct so I didn't mention either.

Hi All

Member since 2009 and although I'm on every couple of days I've only posted a few times due to my GTR being a shell and a pile of parts buried under a pile of crap in my shed. Every year I promise to make a start...

Anyway I opened the bonnet for the first time in years on the weekend to make sure the tags were still there after I pulled it off the road to restore in December 1991. I've had it since 1988. It's been shifted about 20 times including from WA to NSW about 7 years ago.

Interested to know any information you can tell from the tags'

Body - 2703A

Trim - 1804-41V

Paint - 567-12186

Inner Guard - LC-23906A

82911CL168161

It has original paint (buggered) and original interior (very buggered). Original motor is gone but I have 2 GTR replacements - one short and one long. (Forgot to check the numbers)

Cheers,

Warwick

Hi Warwick

The VIN comes up as a GTR completed in Adelaide on 2/2/71 and sold by dealer 862 (City Motors (Scarborough) Pty Ltd, Scarborough Beach Rd, Osborne Park WA) during March '71. The original engine number is not listed but it would be in the 2600S29xxx range. Cameo Gold Met with Antique Gold trim.

All the numbers accord date-wise.

Cheers

Thanks Bazza.

I thought it was City Motors as it had the stencil under the bonnet when I got it but I discarded that bonnet about 20 years ago . I wasn't sure whether my memory was correct.
Being a Perth boy I know City Motors in West Perth well, but I didn't know they had a dealership in Osborne Park (or at least I've forgotten about it)

Thanks once again.

Warwick.

Hi Guys,

Just scored a good deal on a GTR,

can someone please verify. I know Its not the original engine, I was told that by the guy selling it.

Should be a 72 GTR, patina gold and black interior. Any other info would be appriciated.

Thanks

Josh

Hi Josh

That VIN appears on the disc as a GTR completed in Adelaide on 18/8/72 and sold in Victoria by dealer 399 during Sept '72. The original engine number was JL200250.

All the tag numbers accord with each other datewise.

Patina Gold Metallic with black trim is correct.

Cheers

Hi Josh,The dealer code 399 is Goulburn Valley Motors Vic , is it possible to find out more about the gtr because a 8 month 72 adelaide is very rare only ever seen one.

Cheers

Once I get it home Crabba67 I will get in contact with you and let you know anything you want to know. I haven't even seen the car yet, but will be picking it up at the end of the month.
Thanks for the info on the dealer too

Hi ,

I have a 1971 LC Torana , it was my first car when I was 18 ,(I'm now 40). Its been sitting around along time now in my garage .

I want to try and verify what it originally was . The car looks like an XU-1 in many ways. One thing is it only has the compliance plate on the firewall.

What it does have from when I originally purchased the car , all black XU1 interior , the GTR dash , big fuel tank , bob tail , triple strombergs, fluted guards (left guard looks like it has been repaired from damage in its past ) . Body colour is Yellow no idea if it's the original colour. Doesn't have the 3100X block . With all the dodgy things that went on with cars over the years with stolen cars and clones and body tags, I would really like to know what this car originally was when it rolled off the production line .

The first main question is, how much can I tell from the chassis number and the compliance plate on the firewall?

Secondly what other really small details can I look for on the body that might help with identification?

cheers

GGG

HI Ben

Not much can be gained from the Chassis Number or ADR tag (unless it is an Adelaide built car) except the production factory and an approximate build date. The model will have to be identified from its remaining features. If you PM me the Chassis Number - we can start from there.

Cheers

Thanks Bazza,

I am out of the country at the moment , but I'll get my brother to take some pics and get some details asap.

Very curious to get at least closer to the bottom of this one. Hope I can find the keys to get into the boot !

cheers

Ben

Hi I'm looking for some info on my LC Torana, I brought the car as a GTR and have had it sitting in my shed for 8 years, but on closer inspection of the car and some information I've read, I'm now wondering if it's an XU1.
Build date is 10/70
It only has 4 ADR Numbers - 4, 5a, 7, 20
Body # LC19707A
VIN # 82911CL161705
I am missing Body ID Plate for paint, trim etc.
It has large brake booster with bracket,
Near the heater box it has a triangle plate on firewall, with small hole in it, I have been told this is for return spring for triple carb?
Has original muffler with twin tail pipe,
I have rubbed the car back layer by layer and cannot find any GTR Stripping. Also there are no GTR badges, the holes are there but have been filled.
I don't have the original engine or diff centre,
The car has a driver side mirror that I haven't seen before, but I have found a pic of a LC XU1 at Fishermans Bend and the mirror is the same.
It also had the front and rear spoiler,
I have the original opal great box, would that help to ID car?
It doesn't have the large fuel tank, but was told something about the breather pipe for the tank, it has centre punch mark but no hole.
Please can anyone help "It's Driving Me Nuts"!,Cheers !

VIN # 82911CL161705 relates to an Adelaide build LC GTR completed on 9/10/1970.

No engine number is recorded.

The car was delivered to it's original owner by (Dealer 815) Melville Motors, 532 Canning Hwy Melville during February 1971.

Hi Scott1970

A couple of comments:

It was common for the owner/s to bolt on XU-1 parts to GTRs,

The XU-1 variant did not have the distinctive LC GTR-only triangular shaped throttle bracket,

The driver side door mirror was the same on all LC models (round mirror head),

The XU-1 shells do not have 'filled in" GTR badge holes.

The bonnet/boot rally stripes were optional but the side stripes were standard on a GTR.

The VIN disc entry seals the car's fate as a GTR regardless of any other indications.

What does the colour appear to be?

PM me your email address and I can send you pictures of a couple of things to check.

Cheers

Bazza

Johno,The engine number is not on vin disc the numbers relate to one of the first 12 built at adelaide 6 plated but built in the 7/70 but vin number and information on xu1 will stay private for now.

cheers
