Yes im looking at purchasing an xu1 from him, i think he is just trying to make a quick buck on it, or has found another Torana he likes more, im not to sure just yet!

8D11LCL248145J is an Adelaide build GTR completed on 26-07-1973.

Body number 82908A is consistent time wise.

The original engine number is L370323

The car was sold during 8/73 by Dealer 848 in SA.

If the above VIN number was a GTR XU1 the L following the 8D11 would be a P

L = JL prefix 202 S, SL & GTR engine.

P = JP prefix 202 XU1 engine.

Welcome to the GMH-Torana forums.

Adding to what Dave has said - the Chassis Number is fine, the colour is Orchid Metallic and the interior trim is plain black. Dealer 848 is actually Webster Motors P/L, Great Northern Hwy, Midland WA.

253H13869 is originally from a HT/HG. I'm guessing by the low engine number it would be from a HT.

The chassis number Blj31568b does not tell us much other than it is a Brisbane build LJ probably completed in the first week of March 1973

Hi all,

this is going to sound like a dumb question but I'm looking at buying a 72 gtrxu1 can anyone tell me any things to look out for when purchasing one I'm only looking for a genuine item I'm aware the tags but battery tray but is there any thing else that would make a genuine one stand out from a made up one?i guess i will check this thread but man its theres a few pages to go thru.

I've been talking to Adam skap in regards to the car on car sales with the 41x interior

Hi Dylan

You might want to check those numbers again. H168257 comes up as a 2 door 4 cylinder. As well as the VIN, the Chassis Number LC141MB can't be correct. It should be LC141??B in both places. On the Body Identification plate, there should also be a Body Number which is needed to see if all 3 tags 'match'. The paint is Rally Red and the trim is black vinyl.

would it be LC 14131 B, I got sent a real bad pic of a rubbing of that Tag and couldn't make out the last two numbers. but they match the guard.

Double checked the vin and its 82911CH168357. HA my bad.

82911CH168357 appears on the VIN disc as an XU-1 completed in Brisbane on 18/8/70 and sold by Dealer 045 (Suttons Motors P/L Princes Hwy Arncliffe NSW) the following month.

The engine number does not appear on the entry but it would have been in the 3100x20xxx to 3100x22xxx range.

The VIN and Chassis Number are consistent date-wise but you haven't provided the Body Number.

XU.1 with a body number on the paint/trim tag that reads 11458B.... however on the firewall plate it reads ALJ11448B.

Will this number (one or the other) also be stamped on the chassis?

The other smaller plate 82911JH246328

engine appears to be JP298260 (or possibly 208260)

Any help appreciated.

The numbers are fine, but it's a bit hard to say anything else from this distance. It's been for sale for some time, I don't believe that is ever a good sign.

Hi.. can someone please give some more information on this car.. it has the long thin tag 82911CL142462 and the ADR tag with 4,5A,7 1/70 LC 05832A the inner gaurd has this number stampped in it too. The 3rd ID tag is absent.. the car is not registered and in WA.. can this be registered in SA without the 3rd tag and how do i find out what the paint and interior colour was.. thanks for any advise in advance

It appears on the VIN disc as a GTR completed in Adelaide on 21/1/70 and used internally by GMH in Adelaide. There is no engine number listed but it would have been in the 2600S7xxx to 2600S8xxx range. The VIN and Chassis Number are consistent with the build date. It is unfortunate that the Body Identification tag is missing so that the Body Number, colour and trim can be confirmed.

As long as the stamped Chassis Number is in place and has not been interfered with, most motor registration authorities are happy with that as long as you can prove ownership. Check with your local authorities in advance.
