There is a bracket like that on the fire wall.

Hmmm & why does it have both throttle brackets???

Bloody thing didn't load the pic !

Sorry, nothing can be established other than it is an LJ (model unknown) built in Adelaide around late Feb 1972.

That is always the best idea if there are other tags. The Chassis Number that you quoted is the accepted 'identification' as far as older cars go in terms of the motor registration authorities, but the Holden records go by the VIN tag.

I believe I only have the ADR plate. Ill have to check and make sure.

The ADR tag may assist - if you can see any numbers scribed onto the back of it.

G'day everyone, just wanted some advice I'm looking at LC GTR XU 1 has no tags been raced most of its life if it only has chassis stamped number can it be registered? And if so is there possibility someone out there has the vin for it and can they register there's with the vin? Also had an enthusiast have look over it and he said it's a genuine article, as some signs of genuine GTR, 1 was a welded triangle bracket in engine Bay Area you can see where bracket was but it's been cut off. What are some other tell tale signs as I have the vin if anybody can help please? Cheers in advance Rick

By the sounds of the inspection it is only a LC GTR so its not an XU1,,, yes you can rego the car with just your inner guard number,, and yes to whom ever has the vine can rego there car if its fitted with a inner guard number, can I ask if the car still has its original ADR tag, the one under the wiper motor?? If so is it Adelaide or Brisbane built??? I'm a bit lost with the questions you have asked but if you have the vin number post the numbers and someone like Bazza will help you out.

Hi,

My LJ GTR 8D11LDH297774J, in the listing does not have the engine number recorded.

The engine that is in the car is JL431133. The build date is 31/10/73

Is there any other way of confirming if this is the correct engine number or within at least the correct range for this date ?

 

Just curious why some LJ's are Vins start with 82911 or 8D11 ?

That number would be fine. There are lots of JL430xxx and JL431xxx examples in that time frame. There was a change to the VIN tag protocol in late 1972. The change being from (in your case) 82911J to 8D11L.

We where told that only 3 where made,

its not red its black,

but there is no rust, and has all matching numbers on panels.

We don't have vin tag, but someone told us we can get from holden if we have the two chassis plates,

there isn't anything scribed on the back.

Very unusual that there's nothing scribed onto the back of the ADR tag. Does it have the original engine? Has it always been a Sydney car?

G’day All

 

Looking for help in identifying my LJ Torana currently under restoration and need some help.

It came with no motor and no VIN tag but what I do know…

 

Body Identification Plate

Model: LJ 82911

Body No: 218-A

Trim: 1842-40 X

Paint: 567-13884

 

Compliance Plate

03/72 build

And scratched into the back of this was the number 7752 ?

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Russler

 

I believe your LJ Torana is a GTR XU1.

The 7752 scratched onto the back of the compliance plate indicates the VIN number is L197752, a GTR XU1 completed on the 16/03/1972 at the Elizabeth VAP. (Adelaide)

The original engine number listed is P111542 and the body number 218-A is consistent with a 3/72 Adelaide 82911.

The selling Dealer credited with the sale of this car is Dealer 068 located in Victoria.

The Paint colour is Chateau Mauve Metallic and the trim colour is black.

What is the chassis number and is the number on the Compliance Plate the same as the number stamped into the left hand wheelhouse panel?

 

Perhaps you might like to start a build thread for your car. Everyone here loves pics of Torana's, esp the resto process.

Chassis# ALJ02509A is replicated on the Guard and Compliance Tag.

 

I am a little surprised with this car as there is NO stainless steel trim fasteners evident on the doors or quarter panels, I assumed all GTR, XU1 vehicles had them ?

 

Either way one happy chappy here  :D
