Another GTR has popped up on Trademe - someone has obviously spent a lot of time with it, and looking at it, needs quite a lot more!

the last time this came up (2013) there was a screenshot of the chassis number on the inner guard: LC 15234B

 

Whoever owned this in a previous life must have really hated LC Toranas methinks.

The seller is adamant that it is an 9/70 XU-1. Apart from the VIN, the original colour was Kashmir White. There's a clue.

Not much to work with there. The Chassis Number LC21048A dates to 11th-13th of Nov 1970. The other number 183915 doesn't exist, but 163915 appears as a GTR completed on 13th Nov 1970. Please check the numbers again and see if there is a Body Number and paint colour on a Body Identification tag. The Body Number should be around 02480-A. L163915 was sold by Melville Motors, Canning Hwy. Melville WA, further pointing to the fact that this may be the correct VIN.

Hopefully I continue to be a part of the Torana community because I’m looking to buy one soon preferably an LC or LJ two door.
I need some urgent advice on a car I have found for sale it’s claimed to be a LJ GTR-XU1 but I’m struggling to confirm it on my own.
The details I have are

JP 142991 (not sure if it’s original not in car)
Body number 377-A

Can anyone please help and confirm the details I have on the car. All I can find is that it’s built in Adelaide and is a GTR at the least.
I see that the Bathurst XU1 where built there in July August Sept but I cannot find anything about Xu1 ‘a being built there in May.
Also the car is 95K and is in good condition with some rust issues and has a roll cage welded in it.
Is this a fair price I’m not sure and I don’t want to make a 95K mistake

Can't help with the numbers sorry, but for that kind of money I'd be very wary of a car that only has one of the 3 tags present. It might be a fine race car though.

hi mate

I first saw this xu-1 for sale on trade me some 12 or so years ago

at the time it had all its tags and original motor , its been sold over in NZ a few times and now its missing 

some of its tags, car was a private import to NZ and not a GMH export, i gave the dude whos selling car all the detaIls

i had on the car, missing tags could be down to an accident on the track but owner would know what happened to them

so ring and ask them if your really keen to buy..but these are the details i have on the car

just remember that  green rusted out, tag less, missing chassis number xu-1 sold here for about 43k..car in NZ also has a NZ race car log book

as car is 5th month built car its not a bathurst  xu-1

H623740 is the PSN for an LC GTR completed at the Pagewood VAP on the 02/03/1970.

There is no engine number recorded.

There is no sales date recorded.

The Dealer code is recorded as 000 2 which may be GMH internal? in the NSW Zone.

The Trim code is 1189 - 40X which is Spanish Red body colour with Black Vinyl interior trim.

The Body number ??66 will be suffixed with a B.

Hi am new to the site needing someones help my lc gtr wondering if its an xu1 i do have my vin number 89211cj204661 needing year build also cant research anymore driving me crazy ive had this car for 20 years and almost finished restoration just wanting these details if anyone can assist i will be forever grateful

Hi James  - That is a Melbourne built GTR completed on 18/11/69 and sold by Market Motors P/L 16 Melbourne Rd Dandenong Vic during Feb '70. There were no XU-1s built in Melbourne and in any case this car was built about 7 months before the first XU-1 came on the scene.

568-11429 is Sebring Orange.

You are correct, the trim combination number for Sebring Orange is 1190.

Think I better make an appointment with my Optometrist.

your right 6 not an 8 

the car does not have the other plate so colour trim !!!!!

but rubbing back the colour seems to be similar to indy orange 

it's had a good wack on the front witch has been replaced with a lj one 

the body number on the lh guard has been bogged over so can't be read

needs a lot of work

Hi, only info that I have is the body number of ALJ10057A. Other plates currently not found, all other XU1 gear is supposed to be there. 

 

What is it????

The only thing the chassis number ALJ10057A tells us is it is an LJ Torana built in the Elizabeth VAP in S.A during July 1972.

H253811 is a Brisbane build GTR completed on the 25/10/1972 at the Acacia Ridge VAP and sold during November 1972 by Dealer 508 - Jenkins Garage, Cootamundra NSW.

Chassis number ALJ14917B aligns with the build date and JL238857 is the original engine number.

The differential is the std 3.08:1 ratio fitted to GTR.

The missing Body number should be in the high 14***B to low 15***B number range.

 

 

Sounds like the paint colour will be Lime Green Metallic or Dublin Green Metallic.

Thanks heaps S pack, I sent you an email so just disregard it.
Your a champ I think I’m going to go ahead with this one the only real issue with it is a badly rusted Apillar on the passenger side. I’ve had a look on rare spare and kings wood country and cannot find the replacement panel.
Does anyone know if they make aftermarket A pillar panels and where I should be looking?
