L252223 is the PSN (Production Serial Number)
L2 denotes the assembly plant (Elizabeth in SA).
The 2 is also the 1st digit of the 6 digit serial number, the remaining 5 digits represent the sequence number in which the vehicle was built at the assembly plant.

1769A is an Adelaide Assembly Plant Body number dating to May 1973. Unfortunately the Body number does not identify the car as being an XU1.
The VIN number on the skinny tag is what you need.

Hi All,
So here goes, I have just purchased a LC coupe, bits of everything on it, even rear bolt on flares, Hehehehe. Although the triple Strombergs on Holden manifold and GTR interior makes it worth some effort.
Anyway ,usual story tags and inner fender removed.. However working when government departments i do now have a brief history and the adventure begins.
Engine no: QL 3400 (likely not original 202 with 186 cast number on head)
Chassis No: ALC43901B
Build 12/71
Color: Appears to be bronze or gold under window rubbers, currently Red.
Thanks All.

It definitely needs some love but worth it..will compliment my LX SLR.
Allows me to go a little silly not being something very valuable.
Annoying the took the tags though.

Hi Scott
VIN number 82911JH228722 relates to a Brisbane built LJ GTR Torana completed on 11th April 1972 and sold in April 1972 by Dealer 614 - Savell Brothers of Hurstville, Sydney NSW
The body and chassis numbers you have provided match with the April 1972 production date and the engine number recorded is the same as the number you have quoted.
The body colour is Chateau Mauve Metallic and the interior trim is Flax.
Cheers
Dave.

Hey guru's. What can be dug up on my LC GTR. I've had it over 22 years and thought it was time to do some research.
Mostly interested in which dealership it was sold from, approx original engine number (long gone and running 186 now)and Vic rego number (I understand rego may need to be sourced elsewhere).
Vin- 82911CJ214401
Chassis- LC08502A
Body- 885A
Trim- 1193-40Y
Paint- 567-11425
I understand its The 885th GTR body from Adelaide, Dandenong assembled, March 1970, Daytona bronze, Black with houndstooth trim.
Also can anyone shed some light on where/ when the cyl head on my 186 may have come from. It appears to be a yella terra that a mate found as a bare head at the dump yonks ago. Its either 149 or 161 with stud type rockers, bigger valves and inlet ports opened with head bolt tubes fitted. The cast numbers toward the rear of the head are L34. Is this just some weird coincidence and its a head with early numbering system? Cheers

Hi Jason
82911CJ214401 was completed on 12/02/1970 and sold by Dealer 338 during March 1970.
All the numbers look good for the build time frame and you are correct about the paint colour and trim details.
There is no engine number recorded against your PSN, in fact there are not many GTR engine numbers recorded at all in that time period.
Are there any other numbers on your cylinder head?
L34 might be the heads cast date which would decode to November 3, 1964

Hi Dave.
Thank you for the info
other numbers on the head are 7420109. I suspected it may just be a early 161 head but its kinda cool telling people it has a L34 head and confusing them.

Thanks Bazza
that is awesome.
I'm guessing the pic at the bottom is the dealer where it was sold?
Any idea about the cars on the lists with no build dates? Were these crash test cars?
Also, since the engine register is so vague, is there any way to guess an approx range that the engine number could be to help chase up the Vic rego number?

Hi Darby
Yes, that was the selling dealer. Missing data usually means that the primary source information was missing, illegible or not originally provided when the records were computerised. You can see from other entries on that page, that a few engine numbers are listed. This provides at least some indication of the engine number range of the immediate period. VicRoads handed the historic registration info to Association Of Motoring Clubs (AOMC) a number of years ago. I understand for a fee, they will endeavour to search for info within those records. Needless-to-say, they do not provide personal information such as name and addresses of previous owners. Google AOMC to get started.
Cheers

7420109 is a 149 high compression head. 161 has a different number.

Sandlwood interior trim I think ,Adelaide build ,maybe someone with a little bit more knowledge could jump in.
Correct Paul. 48V is Sandalwood vinyl interior trim. 567-13124 is Duchess Gold (metallic) paint.
If you remove the compliance plate the last 4 digits of the PSN will be scribed into the back of the plate.
The PSN will enable the completion date, sales month and selling dealer to be identified.

I had a look at the seats which have always been black with the herringbone? inserts/tops but with parts/remnants of white( pic supplied)
Must have been painted at some stage
I'll try and get the compliance plate removed in the next couple days to see what it reveals

All vinyl surfaces are black but vinyl that attaches to the seat frame are white,(should I say sandalwood)
Also the sandalwood code being 48v
Is the number in front of that (1829) referring to the herringbone inserts?
This interior was in the car when I bought it
So I'm hoping they are correct for my car ie: sandalwood with the herringbone inserts
This is one of the small details I'm trying to find out about the vehicle
