Hi all,
I'm planning to inspect an LJ GTR soon so hoping someone can assist in confirming the numbers all look ok in the context of the Chassis number, for what's being sold as a genuine GTR. Some supporting literature is available and tags don't look to have ever been removed however I also see reproduction tags and tag rivets being sold now; they weren't something I remember ever seeing when I last bought Torana parts.
Car is in Lone O'ranger with Flax trim - said to be original/unrestored paintwork. Anyhow numbers are below and appreciate any assistance that can be given.
VIN - 82911JH238643
ADR TAG - 6/72 ALJ07702B
CHASSIS # - ALJ07702B
Model Tag -
Model - LJ82911M
Body - 07765B
Trim - 1822-48X
Paint - 568-13135
Top -
Engine # - JL 173774

Hi Ben
That VIN appears on the VIN disc as a GTR completed in Brisbane on 27/6/72 and was sold by Jack Dodds Motors P/L the following month. The numbers accord with the VIN and completion date. The engine number is recorded as JL173774. The Lone O'ranger body colour with Flax trim.

A little bit of discussion about this GTR when it was for sale through AMCS back in Feb 2018.

I noticed what looked like a dodgey fibreglass quick repair to the front door pillar so given the extent to which the car was fawned over in the video I thought best check out the numbers firstly and see what other commentary my enquiry invites prior to paying the car a visit. Thanks for sharing the original string - sure nice to have other enthusiasts help out new members in finding the right deal!

Hi Wade
82911JH244272 is an XU1 completed at the Acacia Ridge plant on the 14/08/1972.
The body number aligns with the PSN however the chassis number you have provided is missing one digit. Could the complete number be ALJ10658B?
The original engine number was JP197598.
The Body colour is Glacier White and the interior trim is Black vinyl.
This XU1 was sold by Beazley & Bruce Pty Ltd, Braddon ACT in Sept 1972.

Sorry the number is
ALJ10608B
Do you know if this is a Bathurst spec XU1?
Also I need to know if I should look for specific for this vehicle when I inspected it.
I currently have an LC GTR so I'm looking to upgrade to the XU1
Thanks and Regards

Thanks, that Chassis number aligns with the vehicles build time frame.
For all intents the completion date of the vehicle places it within the "Bathurst" category.
Specific things to look for? Where does one start? I suppose to start look for signs of severe accident repairs although after so many years that could be difficult if the car has had a resto job done.
All panels on these cars were spot welded on so look for signs of original spot welds or lack thereof.
Take heaps of pics, esp of things that you are not sure about and ask on the forum for advice.

Are you 100 percent on that ?
What dates did they make the Bathurst Spec cars?
There’s no date on the pic you attached and the serial number has an R not a H
Is that the only way to tell?
What wheels it had on the build sheet?
Cheers

Hey guys, just wondering if it's possible to find any information on a LC GTR-XU1 with only the original Rego Number?
I'm interested to see if my Dad's Bathurst model LC is still alive and maybe track it down.
Thanks, Matt.
G'Day Matt,
If your dad's car was registered in Vic, you can do a Vic Roads search using the rego plate and that should give you the Chassis number. Then do an AOMC search with the chassis number to get the engine number.
I'm not sure how this would help to find current owner though so maybe just post a pic of it in appropriate forum thread on here and see if anyone knows it.
Good Luck,
Cheers,
Liz

Hi Liz, the AOMC need an engine number for their search. No engine # = NO search.
A successful VIC Roads FOI search for the original registration application should give all the required info.

Hi Dave,
Yes you're right. I just had a look at my AOMC application and I did also give them one engine number (not the original), lucky for me it was recorded on their system.
Cheers,
Liz

Do you know if this is a Bathurst spec XU1?
Yes it is. Holden produced 500 LJ XU-1,s in its August & September 1972 run. 200 were fitted with sprintmasters, 300 were fitted with nibless rims. The 300 nibless cars are what I refer to as the 5V cars, These 300 nibless cars were responsible for the homologation of the XJ cam, 19lb lightened flywheel, springs and the 3.55 diff ratio. The only requirement under the rules were that 100 extra cars be built and 100 cars were fitted with the 3.55 diff ratio. Apart from this they were only required to be basically identical units. The only cars to receive the full " Bathurst " Specs were the race cars. The production cars allowed this to happen. The 200 sprintmaster cars were only responsible for allowing the race cars the use of the Sprintmasters & Track, 2V & 4V. It was the 300 nibless cars which allowed the race cars the use of the 1972 " Bathurst " mechanical components.
H244272 was one of the first 100 August cars built ( Nibless ). These 100 cars allowed amendment 5/5V to proceed. The 200 September cars built ( Nibless ) completed 5/5V.

The October/November run of 1972 LJ XU-1,s along with the second batch of sprintmasters completed the homologation process. The second batch of sprintmasters were offered as an option, similar to the way Ford went about homologating their wheels for the GT HO Phase III.

Both batches ( 6/72 & 11/72 ) of the sprintmasters were of the self locating type.

Do you mean the Production Broadcast Sheet that accompanied the car down the production line? If so then the answer is NOT POSSIBLE.
