That VIN appears on the disc as a GTR completed in Brisbane on 29/6/73 and sold during August '73 by Hillsdons Holden P/L 87 Church St Parramatta NSW. The original engine number was JL353625, Purr Pull body colour with Doeskin trim.

Not unusual for cars completed near the end of the month.

All the numbers align for the build time frame.

Trim code 1835-40V is Taormina Aqua body colour with black vinyl interior trim.

The original engine number is recorded as F9699 - a 2850S engine.

Before you buy it get images of all the tags and the chassis number and post them up here. Normally dodgy fraudulent activity with these has been turning S's or GTR's into XU1's however, until the bubble deflated a bit recently GTR's were worth enough for the dodgy brigade to start faking those as well.

82311CH204067 is recorded as an LC Torana S completed at the Acacia Ridge VAP on the 30/07/1971 and sold by Dealer 029 - John A Gilberts - Camperdown NSW during October 1971.

The PSN, body number and chassis number all align with the build time frame.

The body colour is Salamanca Red with black vinyl Torana S interior trim.

This Torana was optioned with LD1 - High compression 2850cc engine, M20 aussie 4 spd, J52 disc brakes and std G93 3.08:1 ratio differential.

The original engine number is listed as CD8679.

Hi Team,

 

I am looking at a supposed genuine LJ GTR XU 1 but no vin or manufacturer tags and non original motor. I could not see the chassis number but could feel it, covered by tripple webers!

 

I do have:

 

Model LJ 82911

Body 181-A

Trim 1824-40D

Paint 568-13138

 

The car is red with black trim and is being sold as a replica

1824 is Salamanca Red but something weird with the trim - 40D is black vinyl on 824xx models I think (not certain). You might want to post up a photo of the BODY tag.

Andy, do yourself a favour, walk away from that LJ and find a genuine car. That looks to me like a 4cyl body tag that has had the model number tampered with/altered to display 82911.

I'm almost certain the tag is genuine but I have a feeling some shonk has altered the model code after the 8 from 2411 or 2469 to 2911. That probably explains why it has no VIN or ADR tags as the BODY tag was removed from a 1300 Deluxe 2 or 4 door sedan and altered. You can see all the damage around the model code after the 8. The 8 looks real but the 2911 are the wrong font.

 

So if its cheap enough and the chassis number comes up as OK (as in not stolen etc) still might be worth having, but throw the tag in the bin. I'd be almost certain the body was once an S.

Ok thanks guys it is not that cheap around $60k. It is with a dealer I was told that the "Torana Club" had verified that it has all the signs of a genuine car but without the vin cannot tell. appreciate the pick up on the altered body tag will do a numbers check if I progress.
